lower ball joint

lower ball joint on drivers side is busted. sqeeking, etc. Could someone list some possible factors in the ball joint breaking and fluid coming out?

Is it the original ball joint? If it is, the ball joint probably didn't have any grease left in it. I had my stock one blow completely out of grease from the rubber boot on my passenger side going down I-95 at about 75 MPH. Replace them with a set of Moog re-greasable ball joints.
