I know most reading this regard Ford's audio systems as not worth much, but to my jet hearing impaired ears the Mach system in my new EB is fine. I have a question. The head unit makes the tapes and CDs so hot they are hard to handle. I expect some heat, but when my wife and nine year old both say "Whoa, this CD is HOT," well, is this normal? There's no point of going to the dealer for a warranty replacement if so. It seems to me this heat will adversly affect the head unit's life. Yes/No? If normal, should I install a small cooling fan? I've looked, and it doesn't seem there is much in the way of available cooling holes in the radio case in order for a fan to be of much use. Any suggestions? Thanks. Jim

in the 98 eddie bauer explorer my friend and i recently totaled the cds would get so hot they would be able to burn you when you take them out and many times it would say too hot for cd, every mach system i have seen has done this, they sound really good for stock hea dunits and you probably paid a good deal for it but the only way to escape it is to buy an aftermarket stereo, i wouldnt be too worried unless it melts a tape or cd, but ford should really look for a fix for the problem.
hope that helps

Hey guys (first post),

My '99 EB is about to go out of warranty. I also have the problem with the Mach stereo making CD's very hot and sometimes refusing to play with the message "CD too hot". Is this common or do I have a dud?

Thanks
