Well I was able to get Magnaflow exhausts for pretty cheap, so I decided to take the steps and get one for my 96 X. I called the guy and he said he had nothing on anything below an 01, but the catalog I had showed differently. So the guy called Magnaflow directly for me to talk to them. They told him that they only make Exhausts for a 01 and up and wont even make just one for me. So does anyone know where I can get one (a website that might still have some in stock)?

The reason for wanting a Magnaflow system is I heard they have the best performance becauce they're a straight through design. If there's another company that makes an exhaust that has good performance and could compare or beat the magnaflow set-up let me know.

Have you looked at Flowmaster.

I have but the thing with that is I heard they don't have the performance as a magnaflow would have. I want the most performance I can get from an exhaust so that's why i'm looking for a magnaflow.

Basically I'm looking for the best performing exhaust with a good sound from it. If numerous people can vouch for Flowmaster and say they perform better then magnaflow then i'll go with a flowmaster or gibson or whatever would perform best.

Another reason I like Magnaflow is because I can get the get really cheap, so price does have an issue to do with it

Your really cant expect that much HP gains from exhaust, personally I say flowmaster. Alittle less HP but I love the sound.

That is one possible option I can take and thought of (just buying the muffler and getting tubing bent). I'm just exploring the different options I might have, that's why I posted this thread to see what people would say.

Also, what's the problems that you might encounter when installing a 00 aftermarket exhaust onto a 99 Explorer? I thought of this also but I don't have an 01 X that I could look at to see the difference myself.

hey spindle, those are wierd mufflers those guys have, not sure if i love them or hate them though. Are they just making those homemade at home? Wonder if the inside is just hollow.

Not a clue,I think they look trick, would love to get a sound track of them.
They apere to be very manlyish :D

Among the popular aftermarket mufflers, only a dynomometer could tell the difference.
From those, pick your muffler based on sound, cost, and life expectancy.

I thought the only difference through the 2nd gen. exhausts was the union between the cat pipe, and the extensions to the mufflers. I want the sound that I have heard from the Magnaflows, not too loud. Good luck,
DonW

hell man if you live in south carolina you dont need a muffler! or 93/100 counties in NC

Actually i went to a shop down here and they put joints with Wing-nuts at my Cat/resinator and my muffler and gave me a straight pipe i can intergange with... only in South Carolina

You can get away with that in Florida also, they could give two ***** for anything here

+1 on Flowmasters. I got 50 series and love em

On another Ex site, a lot of the members swear by them. That Morgan guy seems to be pretty cool. I'm surprised he doesn't spend more time over here.

May be a crossbreeding thing with FXNers and this site

Well, MAC makes exhaust thats suppose to be the best for performance because unlike flowmasters and magnaflows ehxaust, MAC uses 3" pipes. Plus I have talked to the guys at Explorer Express and they said MAC is the way to go.

Flowmasters are great. Series 40 (single) is a bit too loud on the freeway for me though. Delta should fix that though.

I dunno about that. I've seen a LOT of bad press about MAC catback systems and poor quality. In addition 3" pipes don't necessarily give you the best option for the 4L engines from what I've read over and over again.
