Just wanted to let searchers know of my experience with a original 40 series flowmaster and a magnaflow.
The 40 was installed late last year and replaced the stock system. I also had it dueled out. It sounded pretty good although sometimes a bit ricy. I have the the OHV engine. My problem was it would resonate a lot inside and was just too loud on long trips. Also was never really happy with the dual pipes, although they looked great, they would sometimes clang on my shackles and were aweful close to the brake lines. More of the fault of the shop that did it - I'm not going back there - but just something to watch for if you are considering duals.
Yesterday I went to a different shop that had both flowmasters and magnaflows and they recommended the magnaflow over even the 50 series deltaflow. I also went back to the single tail pipe. Its 2 1/4" all the way back. The sound is much quieter on the inside now. Just slightly louder than stock unless you really get on it. However it does come to life if you floor it and gets about as loud on the outside as the flowmaster did. Its a different sound too, I think it sounds better on the OHV.
The bottom end might be just a tad weaker but it seems to have a bit more passing and merging power.
Just my 2 cents. But I'm happy with the Magnaflow so far.
The exaust is now quieter on the inside then my Goodyear MTR's - but they aren't going anywhere.
