hello , my name is rob and i am brand new to this forum. to be honest i am not a big ford fan, (please dont kill me ). i am however a competent mechanic. in my daily life i build and customize hot rods, sports cars , etc. here is my issue, my dear old mother who personally is to old to be driving has a 2006 mountaineer with only 55,000 miles on it. the other day her live in health care provider brought it to me with a horrible left front grinding noise. upon inspection i discovered the wheel bearing was completely shot and the rotor was warped. both of these i replaced as well as front brake pads. now however it has thumping and howling noise still coming from the front left to center area ( hard to pin point ). i removed the front diff cover to check the carrier bearings, they appear fine. i have no abnormal wear , no excessive play. also the cv shafts are fine , no boot tears, not free play either. when driving it the noise vanishes when you swerve right but is horrible straight and even more so when you swerve left. going in reverse gear however you have no noise except for the reverse gear whine no matter what direction you turn the wheel. also the noise and thumping go with your speed you are travling, the faster the worse, the slower the softer it is. please any and all advice is welcome. what am i missing??
