I recently was given a 1997 explorer xlt. The borg warner 4405 (F77A-GA) was and is stuck in 4-low. There seem's to be very little chance of finding a replacement in my price range BUT I have found a (F87A-CA) from a 1998 explorer. Does anybody know if I can make that work?

Welcome to the forum. I know that you may know how to work the 4x4 switches but I have to ask. Did you put it in neutral foot on brake and then activate switch from 4wd low to 4wd high and then to 2wd?
If this didn't work then have you made sure that it is not the shift motor. There is a thread of removing it and manually switching in and out of 4wd.
