This being my first year with man hubs, and winter setting in, my question is this. Is it ok to drive around with your hubs locked but not in 4x4? Like if it's really snowing out but you don't really need the 4x4. But you might at some point. Understand what I'm saying?

thats exactly what i do. Just keep in mind that the whole axle it turning when you do this. so if its been a long time since you have checked you fluids and lube, before you start doing this might be a good time to check them.

Thank for the help

That's exactly how the auto hubs work until you've changed directions to disengage them. If you're driving on a snow covered road and you push the 4x4 button to go back to 2WD, your whole front axle is turning until you drive the 10-15 feet in reverese to unlock the hubs.

It's my first year with manual ones too and at this time here in Illinois we have had snow on the ground for quite some time.
We just got 6 more inches today. That's how I do it. I just lock them and then all I have to do is to hit the switch when I need 4X4. The only bad side of this is you get worse gas milage. I only get about 180-190 miles on a tank considering that I'm still with 3:73 gears and 31 inch tires in all four corners.

Later,

wow!!! thats awesome!!! w\ 35s i just got 115 miles to this tank!!!! hahaha......aren't these things so economical?!?!?!?!
