The 2002 Ranger trailer towing weight is 4100 lbs with a 4 X 2, 3 litre, 3.73 axle, w/Auto,:

http://www.hillerford.com/Web Pages...rucks/2002ranger/2002rangerspecifications.htm

..... but the bumper on my 2006 Ranger with same specs says "2000 Lbs trailer weight, 200 lbs tongue weight"

Is it just the capacity of the bumper I'm looking at?, (which looks pretty weak, I'd need to reinforce it for 4100 lbs.)

Yes, that is bumper capacity, not towing capacity. You need to add a class III hitch to fully utilize your towing capacity. You can get one from just about any automotive supplier, and most are direct fit bolt ups for around $90-$140.

Thanks for the info!

Do you think this is the max weight without tranny cooler, or with it?
I suppose I should check my manual.

Thanks.
