Maybe Fuel Pressure Regulator Problem

Hello, I am new to the forum and I have am having a strange problem with my truck. It will randomly start choking and die like it is being starved of oxygen or fuel. Then when i try to restart it, it starts rpm's rise then when it try's to return to idle it does the same thing, but if I walk away for about half an hour it will start like nothings wrong then run fine for a couple of days. Its also sluggish on acceleration and has bad gas mileage, but that last bit may be normal. This has led me to belive its the fuel pressure regulator. If any one can confirm this or ha any other ideas it would be greatly appriciated.

If I had a gauge, I would test fuel pressure, otherwise I would replace the fuel filter and see if it helped.

I already changed the fuel filter and that didn't solve it, and sadly i don't have a fuel pressure guage, but thanks for the reply.

i have a 1991 ford explorer 4wd. Having issues with FPR, i have replaced it 4 "four" times within the last year, 3 within past month (all brand new parts, last one is motorcraft brand). It leaks from where the vacuum line connects. I also replaced, fuel filter, ECT, O2 sensor (above cat conventer), TPS, IACV. I havent checked fuel pressure yet. Pump is making not so loud whining sound. The engine starts right up and runs (OFC very rich and gets 9mpg). No black smoke or gunk coming out of exhaust. I ran out of options and would like your input since you all are more experienced than i am. PLEASE help i am stranded.

To make sure I understand -- the FPR leaks at the vacuum line going into the FPR. What is it leaking -- a vacuum leak, or gasoline leaking? Whatever else is going on, there shouldn't be any kind of "leak" there.
