Ok, so I bought a freshly rebuilt Mazda 5 speed for my white truck (600 bucks from http://phoenixhardparts.com!) any how, everything works great on it except it occasionally has problems shifting into 3rd gear under harder acceleration. Every other gear works great, but when you get on it, it feels weird going into 3rd and as soon as you let off on the clutch the shifter pops back into nutural. I'd call them up and ask them, but I lost my phone and I'm not quite sure where I placed it, so I thought I'd ask ya'll. Anybody have this happen?
Thanks

Damn Matt if it's not one thing with you it's another. :D

I'm thinking the third gear syncro in the tranny is sticking and not letting it engage. Was this a rebuild? If so it will either get better or worse right away, no grind means that the syncro sleve isnt even going close to the gear. So better pull-er out.

NOOoooooooo, I don't want to hear that. But you're probally right. I thought it might have something to do with the shifter (just because it would be an excuese to buy a new Hurst short throw shifter) So I swapped out the one that was in my black truck and put it in the white one and it made no difference whatsoever. I'm thinking that I'll also replace my master cylinder since the clutch still feels a bit soft and you have to put it quite a way down for it to shift, so it might have something to do with it. I also bled the hell out of it and it hasn't stiffened up much (I installed a brand new slave cylinder when I did the tranny so I pretty sure there's no problem with it.) Thanks Madmoose I'm sure your correct in the diagnosis, but I'm just in denial 'cause I don't want to pull that SOB out again!!

i have the same tranny that you do from http://phoenixhardparts.com and my 3rd gear is fine and i love the tranny but my 3rd gear does make a little more noise than the others. how many miles do you have on the tranny. and i recomend a hurst billet plus shifter its like $200 but worth it. hurst says its for the ranger but if you use the spacer they give you it fits. you can get them in summit mag or online

Well it's brand new so it's got like 50 miles on it, but it has been doing it since I put it in. I called their tech support today and just as he's giving me what he thinks it is, my phone gave out, and I couldn't get back in touch with him so I'll call back after work. What he though it was (or was beginning to explain) was that it might be this plastic piece down near the shifter linkage, but I couldn't make out what he was describing so I'll have to call back when I have the shifter linkage out and in front of me. I'll keep ya'll posted.
