Moab 2003: October 24-26

Clint and anyone else interested,
If you are looking to hook up with any of us Thursday night check the Moab Brewery, that seems to be the place everyone ends up.

hey guys, sorry but I won't be able to make it down this weekened. My dad reminded a few days ago that it was my mom's birthday on Saturday(Great son huh? ). I also found out that I will be able to retake a math test this weekened that me and pretty much everyone else in my class failed. I guess I just wasn't supposed to go to Moab this time. College is tough!
Well, everyone have fun without me.:)

Unfortunately I must bow out of the trip. :( My boss (uncle sam) has decided he needs my services. I hope you guys have a great time. Take lots of pics and lets see some good write-ups when you get back. There is already talk of a spring Moab run so I will start planning for that. Keep the rubber side down.

On Our Way!!

Jefe and I are headed out the door. We are changing our accomodations to match our vehicle's luggage capacity. We'll be at the Ramada or MicroTel Thursday night thru Sunday. No room in the Jeep for tent, tarps, sleeping bags, cooking stuff. (That's what an Explorer is for!)

Thanks Mike I might just see you there.

Mike, (Biggs) Too bad maybe another time :)

nkd2, I hope to see you out on the trails in moab this spring ;)

Well I'm out of here tomorrow so I'll see everyone there, woohoo!

EDIT: I almost forgot to mention I will be traveling with a Jeep TJ so I hope this doesn't cause anyone to get worked up over seeing him whoop up on all of us........................LOL J/K :) He is a Moab local part time so I think he knows his way around? :)

I'll be pulling into Moab around dinner time tomorrow. Hopefully some of us can get together for dinner for drinks at the Moab Brewery.

See everyone soon!!

Mike and Gerald, thanks for making the arrangements for this run. I appreciate the effort!

I second the thanks to Mike and Gerald, Thanks guys at least thats what I say now. :) Just wait until I come home with a few new dents/scratches ;)

Clint, are you more afraid of the damage, or what the wife will do when she finds out. :p

Clint

yeah, i'll be on I-70. i'll be leaving boulder area at either around noon or 4 in the afternoon, so if you see my truck (looks exactly like the avitar) then gimme a hollar, i'll be on cb channel 13. see you guys tomorrow!

Mike she doesn't care any more now that she is getting a new(or new to us) explorer. There will always be that love between her and her X so I try and keep it looking good..... :)

Jared, I'll keep an eye out and listen in on 13.

I don't think I can sleep tonight, oh well its just sleep anyway why do I need that? :)

Ok I'm headed out the door right now, I promise :) I'll see you all there :) :)

Well, hopefully someone down there reads this, I was on my way out of Boulder when my engine stalled and when it started back up again it stalled promptly 5 minutes later and I had to tow it back to Boulder. I think it's a bad fuel pump or fuel filter or something, but either way I'm going to have to wait here until they can take care of it tomorrow morning. I guess I just wasn't destined to make it to any Moab trip on a Friday (for anyone who remembers my driveshaft mishap from last year). I'll be down there hopefully friday night. See you guys then.

Tales from the trenches

Well, we arrived Thursday about 2pm. Had lunch, checked in to the hotel, and headed for Hell's Revenge. Jefe and I ran Hell's Revenge in double speed, checked out some of the more interesting obstacles, and finally headed back after it got dark.

We met up with the Explorer "Big Dawg" crew at City Market Friday morning. Somehow Jefe got elected trailboss for Cliffhanger (cuz he had the GPS coordinates already entered) and we headed out. We started out with seven rigs, but lost three in the first 1/4 mile to a rear driveshaft, leaking ARB hose, and a transfer case problem.

The remaining four continued on and we had a blast! Some rather exciting three-wheel action for the shorter wheelbase vehicle (I don't know who they are talking about :D ), an extremely stuck-under-the-skidplate/frame/rear-diff big rock obstacle, steep ledges next to sheer cliffs, and a busted wheel bearing rounded out the day for a late trip back to camp. Whew!

Can't wait for ekipS nedloG tomorrow!

Sounds like a lot of long stories should come out of this run. What's the latest report?

More Tales from the Trails

Well, no one else is posting. so . . . . .

Saturday was the triple play for the "Big Dawgs"- Poison Spider Mesa, Golden Spike, and Gold Bar Rim - everybody made it through with only a broken brake line. I believe we flew through it in about six hours - counting lunch, breaks, and brakes :)

After we returned, Jefe and I took our compadre, Jason, out in his pre-runner Ranger to sample some of Baby Lion's Back, Potato Salad Hill, and Fins-N-Things.

Sunday, we ended up running Metal Masher by ourselves, while the rest of the group ran Steel Bender. With time to spare after Metal Masher, we also played around on Gemini Bridges. We made it back to town just in time to see Gerald limping back to camp with a broken CV (ouch!)

Pictures and details to come!!

This was definately an eventful weekend! I'll post my report and photos asap.

Thanks to all for great weekend. Char and I had a blast!

BTW, after I did a bit of doctoring to the VW and we were able to drive it home. The top speed was limited to 70, but that's better then a $900.00 towing bill!

Sounds like a complete blast.

Am I missing something about the VW here? What happened?

Man oh man, what a trip. It was a bumpy trip back because I apparently knocked my alignment way out of whack, but considering that and a broken hub is all I have to worry about, I'd say I made it out great.

It was great seeing everyone again, and meeting everyone I haven't met before. And it's always fun being Char's running joke for a weekend :D

I had a great time and I'm already getting ready for next year. Can't wait to see some pictures!

Still looking for my second foot...
