I have heard a lot of referals to the 'Moab Edition' in recent threads. I am assuming of course, that this is a concept born purely of the imagination of this site, but if this does come from somewhere, let me know, because I'm interested. What mods constitute being a member of this exclusive club? On a side note, wouldn't it be cool if we could somehow manufacture some custom emblems to put on our tailgates? Or explorer4x4.com emblems could be cool too. I think it is definately something that should be looked into.

If we want an inside joke I'll be glad to get some prices in different colors. I know Gofast was the original person who said he would want one if I did this. As a matter of fact, it was his original "special" edition idea that spawned this one of mine.

Well, I did it and put the sticker on. We're probably looking at twelve bucks a pop and any profits I'll send to Rick. If there is an interest from enough of us who don't think it's a cheesy sticker I'll do it. The price won't change, but the more that order the better price I'll get and the more $ to send to Rick. If we could keep it in just a couple of colors it would help; ie, gold for Eddie Bauers, black or gray for light colored vehicles, and white for dark ones.

Just a minor note; if we do this I would strongly prefer that the stickers not end up on vehicles that look mostly stock, you know what I mean? If we do this I don't want it to be a "rice" thing.

Let's say a "Moab Edition" entails at least a traction-aiding device (limited slip or locker) on at least one axle, at least 31" aggresively-treaded tires, and at least a 2" lift. That will cover anyone who is serious enough to do a torsion/shackle/add-a-leaf or old model minor lift and put some serious tires on to match with a diffy to grip some trails. Any "Moab Edition" should be easy to spot in a parking lot. If yours blends in with the autos, it don't qualify.

Is there an interest in doing this? I was only doing something for fun with my own vehicle, but this could be kinda a fun inside joke for Explorers. If it is considered too cheesy, well, no big deal.

Does anyone know anybody that makes custom emblems, as opposed to stickers? That might be kindof cool too.

We need to define the difference between an emblem and sticker since you just confused me. When I said sticker I may have meant emblem. This place does any kind of custom vehicular striping/graphics/lettering/etc/etc/etc.

I don't know what the standard definitions are for the words, but to me an sticker is like a decal, and lies flat against the surface of that which it is applied to, more than likely by the use of adhesives. An emblem would be more like the raised 'Explorer' on your tailgate, usually bolted on, although adhesives can be used here as well. Just I thought, I guess, the sticker/decal would probably look better; but the emblem would maybe look less out of place, depending on how it was done, possibly to look like it came that way on the truck. IT would proabably have to be done in smaller letters than the 'Explorer' emblem, and in the same font, placed just under it. It might look kindof tacky now that I think about it, and maybe the sticker would look better. What do you think?

I think the emblem or sticker, should only be worn by those who have actually visited and driven the Moab trails.
Just my .02.

Interesting Concept...

Will you qualify next year?

Sinjin,
You took the words right out of my mouth. I also think that the sticker/emblem should only go to those who have been there. This like the Moab sticker I have on the back on my truck. I would not think of putting it on if I hadn't actually been there.

but but but but but but but but......

What about us that are trail worthy, just can't make it that far west as of yet?!?! Illinois is a far way off!! i fully plan on attending somtime, just don't have the time (ie vacation time) to get out there.

My tires are even BFG Moab Edition....(which i will be selling soon here....) and i just jacked up my baby another 6" or so....just picked her up from the fab shop today! (custom shock work....) so im trail worthy...just not as well "traveled" as i should be..... *pout*

Hmmm....

This could be a very good incentive to get people to schedule vacations to join up for a HUGE Explorer Moab Run next year, even bigger than you Left-coast guy's Truckhaven run.

I want a BIG Moab in 2001. And all of you planning Truckhaven have to admit: Moab is much better, right?

PS/ Riffman, Dallas ain't exactly next door to Moab either. I can tell you though, that it is one of the best vacations I have ever taken; and I include snowskiing trips and a jaunt to Hawaii in that comparison. You can make it if you want to; and meet great people and have a blast too.

man....i'd love too....but it would really take some coaxing my wife...er.....g-friend (lol) to let me go....she might just have my you-know-whats on a platter!! any suggestions on persuasion tactics?

I will be there next year to earn my badge of honor.
But I hear where Riff is coming from, it's hard to drive or find time to drive that far.
Like the voice in the back of my head always says......you gotta do what you gotta do. :)

Can I have a Moab Edition sticker too? I have driven through it a few times, even stopped for gas one time. ;) Sorry no thanks. I want to go to Moab this year if there is a get together but I think I will pass on the Rice Capades. :)

Riffman, that is the easiest question to answer of all. Moab is where the old John Ford/John Wayne westerns were filmed with the large geological formations of spires and arches and etc are in the western US, within two national parks. Awesome starkly beautiful scenery.

I have a STRONG suspicion many families will be joining this trip. And your wife and/or kids too will enjoy the fellowship and comraderie of meeting a bunch of really neat people while having a blast learning to drive your Explorer to places like the "Top of the World" trail. There are few better opportunities for family vacations than this one. We who have been there can spend pages telling you about it, but we won't: you are welcome to come, or you can ignore us.

I have been approached dozens of times by strangers asking why I don't dump my overly-expensive EB and get a beater to take on the trails. It is because I have met these people, and I want to keep meeting them.

You will find no greater quality of acquaintances anywhere than here at Rick's website.

See you in Moab. And yeah, that idea was a good one. You can get the sticker when I see you there.

I believe we have now established the Moab Edition Club.

Be There.

PS/ Paul, you don't need a rice sticker, but I'd surely value getting to meet you someday. Moab would be a good place to do it. But I don't think my grocery-getter could meet you halfway through Little Sluice. I wish I could build mine someday to do that.

Stickers are a matter of degree. Some Pirates have rather huge stickers on their vehicles. "Rice" is a matter of level of opinion of size: whether a small sticker in 7/8" letters on the tailgate like mine, or huge ones covering a hood over the entire front of the vehicle.

I'm not near as capable as most, but I like to show that I am more capable than others. It's all in fun in our sport.

Riff buddy, You just have to appeal to what she likes. Shopping! All women love to go shopping. Sandy had a wonderful time shopping in Moab. There are lots of good places to go shopping there.

MOAB=Tourist Town

Lotsa Shops!

EXCELENT!!! SHOPPING!!!! YAHOO....for her i mean...the only thing i like shoping for is steel, chrome, or rubber! (tires that is!! lol)

after reading this, though i already knew about the comraderie (many Illinois-ans offered their help on my lift problems...), i have definately decided that a moab trip is a MUST!!! Gotta earn that sticker, ya know? I'll figure a way to get there!!
