Paul, you HAVE to go to Moab next year. You've already proven yourself as one of the very few of us with a little class that doesn't have a cheesy ricer streak in him. ;)

Hey, I'm sitting about 2.5-3" higher than stock and I've been to Moab. Do I qualify?

Gerald, another Moab run might work for me instead (or maybe in addition to) CCR 2001. If we can schedule it for a time frame similar to last year, I may be willing to make the trek.

Riff, maybe we can get the midwest contingent to form a convoy out there. It was a lonely trip last May. :)

What time does Moab tend to run...If it's summer time, I'm willing to get some crazy setup from U-haul to get the rig down there....After Attica, I realize it'll be the best way to go long distances....So if it's summer, I'm game....Riff...we could be the few to truck it from Illinois!
Thanks, Pete

If it's early summer, about a week or two after school lets out, I'll be making the trek from Houston! I have to make a flight to New York the first week of summer, but after that, I'm game!

I see that last summer was early may...if it were late may, by then I should have my new lockers and gears...the later the better!

Let's see: My 31 MTs are still on back-order, I'm running an open 3.55 rear diff, there will never be a "real" lift on my truck and I live on the East Coast; I fear I will have a problem qualifying for the Moab Edition sticker. Do you mind, if I put a "I survived the speed-bump at Walmart" sticker on??

On the other hand, I don't think you have a chance to qualifie for my "Ex-Defender" license plate either.

Riff, I'll go with you next year to Moab. What do you say?

Oh, Matt...I get it...ya would go to Moab with Riff...But not me....Sure...exclude the youngin!
If the times and parts are right, I'm there!
Pete

hey there youngin....im only 20! just turned....

Well, I'm 18 now...But I'll be at the boring age of 19 by the time Moab comes around....If it's late may, there is nothing stopping me...It'll be my summer trip!
Pete

Ya, all three of us. Riff posted so I was talking to him, no need to start crying all over the place Pete. Dead Link Removed

Matt, it's damn near a river....haha, no I was kidding...I know ya woulda found out adventually that I was goin.

donkey boy,
I went to Moab and did Steel Bender(4 rated trail) with open diffs and 31" tires. I was only lifted 2" on the back and 1.75" in the front, and only had to be strapped over one obstacle

Hmmmmm........GUMBALL!

I see Gumball has been mentioned. ( Refer to old movie called Gumabll Rally, Oldtimers thing )

I'm in for Moab in 2001. I have talked a little with Gerald about this and expressed a desire to tie in Ouray with the trip either up or back. I'm thinking of hitting Black Bear Pass again once they open it after winter. Then driving over to Moab and spending several days there.

I'm thinking of a week vacation this time. I would be in Ouray on Sat & Sun. Moab on Monday and stay there till Friday? Then drive back to Dallas. I would have both weekends for travel. I could maybe drive back through Denver area and hit some of those trails too.

Still thinking about this mostly at this point. But why not tie in both areas?

Also, Plan on putting some type of sticker on my truck. Please don't be to hard on us Paul. We really are good folks. I just like the looks in peoples eye's when they see the places I've taken my truck.

Hell I had to be strapped over that one! LOL That was just a little to scary for me to be doing that late in the day. :) Just so Ray can't feel to bad there. I was/am/have been modified too. :)

Moab Shmoab

Hey folks...
I, too am on the east coast (flatlands of NC)

Big boy trails are few and far between for me, but!
One thing you kids aint discussed is DEEP WOODS CYPRESS SWAMP RUMBLING.... Thats about all we can do around here, and its only for the narrower SUVs, like (ugh) Jeep. But a daring few (including my father and myself) have ventured to attack the bogs with explorers... Oh.. these are no "trails." These are "see how far north you can make it" expeditions...

Maybe me and the guys should start a "Swamp Insanity" club and exclude all U mountain climbers!

LOl

:)

Thanks for the moral support, Ray!

You really did some great things with your almost stock rig. Telling you the truth; I'm not worried at all, we "stockers" just need to drive a little bit better than the guys with the big dawgs :D In your case: If you drive now with your new set-up with the same finesse you did before, you will be unstopable!

The reason for my post was actually that I thought it's pretty funny the way they try to make a definition, which criteria you need to fullfil for qualifying for the "Moab Edition" sticker. Why not just saying: if you have made a trail in Moab with your Explorer with whatever set-up, you qualify for the sticker. Period.

I would never have the idea of putting a moab sticker on my Ex-Defender without having been there.

I just noticed on your pics that your exhaust was exiting on it's original location. You never had any problems with it? I already dug mine in the dirt once and was thinking to relocate it, let it exit on the side just behind the wheel.
