Explorer Sport Moab Edition???

I believe that Explorer used to belong to Tom Wilk.
I think it's got the Old Man EMU 2" rear springs, shocks and a torsion bar twist, with 32" BFG AT tires.
Tom used to live in Ohio and moved to Tenn. awhile back.
I also know that he put a front receiver hitch on it that he attached the front license plate to. Very cool, he could remove the plate and attach a clevis receiver to the front for strapping over things.
If you go to the Explorer registry and look up "Tom Wilk" he has a picture of his truck under his name, since he was an Elite Explorer member. He doesn't have any other pictures than that.
I think your "Moab Edition" sticker should look exactly like Gjarrett's, since I believe he got it from Gerald.
Hope this helps.
Oh! one other thing. You should tell the dealership that you went to, they can get their answers from this site, instead of making up their own incorrect answers, and that 's for just about anything they would want to know about the Explorer. And Welcome to the site. :)

Darn, Rick beat me to it.

He was at the Moab 2000 run.

How small this world is fascinates me everyday of my life!!!

The odds of you buying 1 of 30 Xs with this sticker and then showing up here are just staggering!!:)

I am going to get a lottery ticket.........................

Wow, think of the places your Explorer has been!

Hi Ray,

Thanks for the info. Would it be possible for you to explain what the rear springs, torsion twist bar, and a clevis reciever are. Does this mean that he lifted the truck? I have no knowledge about cars and would really appreciate it if you could help me out here.

My email to Tom bounced. He changed internet providers. I sent him a PM through the board so if he checks in here he'll get the message.

The Emu Springs lift the rear of your X 2" and he twisted the torsion bars in the front to lift it 2". Read Dead Link Removed and/or Dead Link Removed if you want to find out about the TT (torsion twist)
BTW im in Knoxville so if you need any help with anything im not too far away. :D

Hi Megan, and Welcome to the site.

Your truck uses torsion bars instead of front coil springs. What many of us do inorder to get bigger tires to fit without rubbing is adjust the torsion bars to lift the truck up higher. That's what is called a "torsion bar twist".
The rear leaf springs are not stock. They are custom made springs ( by Old Man EMU a subsidiary of the famous ARB company) that are made to give the rear of the truck 2" of lift. You also have Old Man EMU Shocks, which were made to go with those custom rear springs and the "torsion bar twist" to give you the travel needed with a 2" lift.
The front receiver was put there to use as a place to attach a tow strap to. You can buy a Clevis receiver insert to put in that receiver hitch so you can be towed out from being stuck in something like mud or anything else. Go to any 4X4 shop or online and see a picture of this Clevis reciever insert

I'm pertty sure that I have Tom's Email addy at home. I talked to him acouple of months ago.

This is getting weirder enought by the minute. I looked up Tom Wilk's address on the internet, and it turns out that he lives less than a mile from me!!! I pass by his neighborhood daily. I think I might have to pay him a visit.

Yeah, I would go to the dealer that sold you the Explorer and tell them to "prove it". And see what they have to say about your Moab edition. That should be funny.

Wow, it is a small world....and it just goes to show how close we all are on this site, lol. Welcome to the Explorer Owner's world, Megan!

Now try putting on a Gt symbol and messing with dealer's minds :D

Go to his house and tell him you're from the dealership and he needs to trade vehicles back cause you guys made a mistake. Tell him he owes you $10k too. :D

Tom does live in Chattanooga.

Just show up real early in the moring and park it in his driveway.

He will wake up and think it is just like a lost kitten that finally found its way home.:D

Very Cool!

Yep as soon as you said it was red and came from Ohio from a man that moved to Tennessee I knew it had to be Tom's. Go ahead and look him up, he would get a kick out of hearing this story. And he's the nicest guy in the world. Tell him to drop in on the site and say hi! Your Explorer has been to some amazing places; get him to tell you about it. Better yet, join us on the next Moab run this October and do it yourself!
Welcome to the site :)

PS: a note about the Ford dealership not knowing much but saying it is rare. Yes it is, there's only about 30 or so of us with the decal on, LOL. Like Rick has mentioned, I had them made for those who went on a Moab run with us (Tom had one of the original issues made for the Moab 2000 run and I think there were only 20 of those made). "Moab Edition" may be in the Ford database now. I took mine into a major Dallas area Ford dealer body shop for work after I laid it over a couple of years back and the body shop listed the decal on the insurance estimate report so they could get paid to have it made and replace it. State Farm Insurance honored the claim and paid to replace the decal. The dealership had to enter "Moab Edition" into their repair report on the computer to charge for it. The body shop manager joked that the Ford computer was tied to some sort of dealer network and that because he entered it in, my "Moab Edition" may have just become official, LOL.

It's a small world after all.

Gofast has the original Explorer GT. I heard a rumor it may even be running now :D

Wow this in incredible! It makes me want to include a few business cards or decals to my new ex for when I sell it. "hey, Ill throw in an elite membership to the site when you buy my explorer!" Haha. THAT is way better than any owners manual!
Congrats on the new Explorer Megan, its a sweet looking truck. And welcome to the site.

Cool to see an Explorer make it's way back to the board. :D

I think it's time to make my Sport Trac a "Moab Edition". Gerald, do you know what font they used to make yours?

I had one of Gerald's original decals, but had to get a new one when I messed up my rear hatch. That's when I got the one pictured to match the stock badge better.
