5-10k is the range. I'm like Jot017, I change mine at 5k. There was a study done somewhere on here about how the synthetics hold up. Do a search on Mobil 1 and you should be able to find it. They sent oil samples in to a lab ever so many miles and found out how long the synthetic held up. If I remember correctly, it was something like 15k, but they changed their filter every 5k.
5,000 miles. Most studies show that synths and their additive packages last longer than that. The problem is that the oil continues to get dirty over time even though it is not breaking down. 5K seems to be a good compromise to me. Consumer reports says 6k is OK according to their taxi-cab test- even with convential oil. Modern motor oils are just damn good at what they do.

The filter is what removes these contaminants. Our filters are guaranteed for 7000 miles. But for heavy duty applications our bypass filters filter to less than .020 of a micron. this is how OTR semi trucks using Amsoil get 60,000 miles PLUS!
If your oil has a high TBN (see the oil basics section on my site), a low volatility, and a guarantee, you are in good shape for 25,000 miles. I use oil analysis so therefore get even further than that but I only do it for testimonial purposes. (BTW, our XL-7500API is now priced lower than Mobil 1)
Yes, oil filters filter your oil. I assumed most people on this board are aware of this. However, no filter is 100% effective. That is why contaminants continue to build up in your oil over time. there is no way around this.
Checked with Mobile Oil and they said to change at the longest intgerval listed in my owners manual - in my case, for a 2000 Ex it is 5000, so that is what I will do.
Take a look at the By-pass system if you haven't. These fit the explorer perfectly. With this watch how long your oil stays clear! The filter material is about 2 inches thick and even holds back up to one quart of water (BE-90). Also relocates your full flow filter. You can even add a drain **** for oil analysis which we supply.
I haven't personally because it won't fit in my car. I'm getting a new car and will have the whole setup. I have a dealer in Boston that does in his Tundra as well as my direct jobber (My Amsoil sponsor). I also have tons of data from private trucking firms that use the Dual unit because it saves them 1000's.. There is also a well known dealer in VA that has never done a oil change in his F350 Van. You should see this filter cut in half. It even holds back up to one quart of water. At 45 MPH it will filter all the oil in a 5qt sump in 5 minutes.
