modified shock towers...???

Has anyone ever tried to modify the shock towers(pre-95) to do a coli over spring? It seems the top is just a cap and the bottom would be a slight modification to change it to accept the bottom mount of the shock. Any ideas, suggestions, good/bad idea....?

I have no idea how you might do something like that but if you got the fab skills, time and money I say go for it. You would be unique!!!
