Hi

I'm a total newbie to both this forum and to the Explorer/Mountaineer experience. I dug through about 60 pages here in the "Modified" section looking for performance upgrade ideas and came to the conclusion that the most favored are exhaust, trans kit, or chip/tuner. I have about $400.00 to spend and would like the most bang for my buck. I have a 97 Mountaineer, 5.0 AWD stock with the exception of a Mac intake, what should I spend my money on? I talked with a guy at the trans shop today and he didn't favor doing anything to the trans saying it was designed to shift soft and that even though Transgo made a kit for it he would advise against putting any kit in. I guess I believe him since he was taking money out of his own pocket but I'd really like to hear what you guys have to say.

Your thoughts are greatly aprreciated.

Thanks

Scott

i would save up and go with headers and exhaust
that is ur best bet
then go with a chip

i second that. an exhuat system will get you some power but the headers for our V8's are the wya to go. Save another 287 bucks and buy your self some TMH headers. www.torquemonsterheaders.com the work and a lot of guys on the forum have used em. I plan on getting a pair myself this summer.

+1 on the headers, everything I read about headers on V8's is what everyone raves about. After that I would go with exhaust, intake, then a tuner to finish it off and bring it all together....i just listed a lil more than 400$ but I was just givin u an idea
