2001 Explorer Sport
I'm a noobee here and just picked up a 2001 Sport 2wd. It has 100k and seems to be in pretty good shape. However I did not get an owners manual but downloaded a PDF online. I did a search but didn't find what I was looking for.
My truck has what appears to be a factory moon roof with the additional compass, temp gauge, and garage door opener compartment.
It has four buttons that are relative to the moon roof. This is not what appears in the manual. The roof functions well but has a couple of quirks that I can't get a handle on. One button is for open/close, another is for vent and two more that I not sure about. One of these will sometimes be lit as red while the others are always green. When it's red the close button will not close the roof. You have to use the vent button to close. The one-touch function will not work when this light is red. This issue appears to be relative to the roof being open when I shut the truck off.

You havent got a factory sunroof then. The factory ones only had one switch. Forward to vent or close, back to close from vent, or open fully.

Explorer's were available with an overhead console, with a small storage area in place of the switch.

Yep- if you had a factory moonroof, you would not have a garage door opener holder.

The single 'button' factory switch has the following setup-

Tilt up <---> Close <---> Slide open

Thanks. This makes sense. The four buttons that I have are small (not rockers) and they are right in the center of the lamp lens. It's a good aftermarket job. It has the shade. It's smooth, fast to open and close, just has some funny logic to the operation of buttons.
Thanks Again

Thanks again. There is no question now that my sunroof is indeed an aftermarket ASC. I did a little search on the web and it seems like they have a pretty good link to a lot of dealers. The sunroof business has always been a little weird. I ordered a new 1974 Ford Elite and a friend worked on the line that built them in Michigan. He told me that they send the cars out of the plant to a vendor (on the grounds) and the vendor cut the whole and wired the car for the sunroof. Ford installed the roof and it was "Factory" but the dealers would not work on them under warranty. I had to take it a trim shop to get repairs (many).
