Hi folks. What is the Most miles you have seen on a 5r55s transmission before a rebuild. Have any made it to 200,000 miles?

How often do you do fluid changes?

every 30k... i also drive easily on the tranny, but i tow occasionally and go offroading every month, so its not always easy... this 5r55e definitely wasnt built on a monday or a friday!

Wow! Glad to hear that!

2007 Eddie Bauer, 4.0, 180,000 miles. My 5r55s was rebuilt at about 145,000 for $1600 when reverse crapped out. And then at about 175,000, the shift solenoid went out. Got that replaced for about $700 and now, I can't recall it working any better.

Hope these two videos are helpful, especially the 2nd one! It has saved me some $ I believe!

This is good advice. I have a maverick on order. The manual for it says under severe driving conditions the trans fluid needs to be changed every 30k and 60k otherwise.. The thing is, severe driving conditions include frequent stop and go driving. Basically, anyone living in an urban or dense suburban area is under severe driving conditions. It makes sense since stop and go driving requires frequent shifting.

Also, if you remember the "car talk" guys, they always said the worst thing for a car is hard acceleration, which also makes sense since you vastly increase the amount of stress and wear on basically every moving part. So drive easy and change the fluid frequently. I wish I had known that years ago.

having a commute mostly highway at 70 mph helps too ;) but mainly being easy on the vehicle and maintaiencen can greatly imapct the longevity!! keep the tranny cool! also, let me know how the mav is! looking at one myself (have you test driven both the hybrid and the gas? if so, does the hybrid have what it takes?)
