Hey
Would an eco-boost mtr/trans combo work in a 03 explorer 4.0/auto 4x4? Just spitballing. Thinking maybe put a more modern setup in there.

What engine do you have now

410, it says 4.0/auto.

Ha! Must have been sleeping

Well you can do a Ecoboost for sure I mean anything is possible really

For your generation if explorer the coyote swap might be an easier option
Or the 7.3 Godzilla ;) that’s the one I would do 500+ hp size of a small
Block

There's places that sell used ecoboost engines with the pcm tuned for swap projects. For less money a duramax 6.6 diesel could be put in the engine bay. With some tuning you could get 500+ hp and 900 lb/ft tq which would be pretty fun.

Link?

Here's the link to the Duramax wiring harness. Simple 4 wire hookup to make the motor run. With the DSP-5 you can have 5 tunes to switch from on the fly.

I should’ve mentioned, I’m old and cheap 🤣
Those links look great though, just not affordable
Thanks

A 4.6 or a 5.4 with a 6R80 would be the cheap alternative

You can get an engine from a junk yard for under $1,000. Find a V8 explorer same year as yours in a U pull it yard to get a V8 engine wiring harness. The swap has been done and documented on this site. A good set of aftermarket heads gets you pretty close in power as a coyote engine for less money.

Not sure what tranny it’s got.
Gotta see it

Exactly why I have never done a Ecoboost coyote or Godzilla swap
Even if I go to auction and get the complete mustang focus f150 explorer whatever donor the cost of converting to these is waaaaay higher then the tried and true el cheapo conversions I do now

Someday the cost will come down
I’m sure somebody will say I did my Ecoboost swap in 2 weeks and $400 but at auction any of these fetch good $$$$ because everybody wants one

If you own something with one of those motors that was involved in a total loss accident. You buy the vehicle back from the insurance. Otherwise the old school stuff is the way to go.

My dad has a 2014 gt500 with the trinity engine
I keep waiting for it to roll down the hill into a train unoccupied but that hasn’t happened

With my luck it would be the corvette to get totalled first it’s an automatic ls4 I believe yucky auto

Those LS motors can handle 4 digit power levels all day long. I'm a ford guy, but I have to admit that is impressive. Also was the LS4 the V8 found in the front wheel drive cars too?
