Mounting crossovers

I have a question about mounting component speaker crossovers. I have heard recommendations against installing these type of speakers in the rear, but have done so anyway. Is it OK to mount the crossovers to the speaker bracket? The best way I could see to install them is inverted to the top of the bracket if they can take the vibration from the speaker.

why were you told not to? If it was me i would go with a set up front for sure before the reat. But then do some in the rear. i have never had any problems mounting them. i usually screw thaough tht holes on the x-overs into the sheet metal somewhere. I have also seen a really good double sided tape used too (one where i had to use a screw driver to pry it off).

The only problem that you would run into by running a component set in the rear is if you were competing in sound quality competitions. Then again any rear fill is ill advised at that point as it "pulls" the staging too far behind you.

For the everyday driver, if you like the way it sounds, no one else can tell you that it is wrong. Enjoy those drivers and make them work for their money.

As for mounting the xovers, unless you have some really exotic set of Xovers that carry a floating or non floating noise suppression ground, you are golden with mounting it any which way you want. Just be sure to not let them interfere with anything like windows or door handles etc. and that the terminals or wires dont stick out and short themselves on sheetmetal.

Today is a very good day for dealing with this. Anyway i guess a photo is worth a thousand words. Keep in mind that we are upside down and backwards with this one. This was my original idea, but with vibration and being inverted i was afraid that the jumpers would fall off. I'm looking at an Alpine PDX 4-150 amp to power this baby. More photo's are on the way.

Alternative idea

Here is a location for easy access for getting to the jumpers in the crossovers. But it defeats the purpose of keeping it hidden. I'm no expert in this, but i do like all suggestions.

Here's what the rest of what I have for this install. The amp shown is for the sub. The circle drawn on the panel is where i plan to install the tweeter. I haven't thought of what to do with the locations for things on the front yet, but i still plan to use the same speakers. The sub needs more work to mount below flush, plans for it are to turn a ring from aluminum to sink it at flush or below just like OEM.

hmmmm maybe make a little panel that velcros to the side panel with cloth covering to hide the x-overs,,

i put mine like this, and hid the X-over under the dash by the kick panel, easy to get at , and hidden,

Thats about what i had in mind for the front for the tweeters considering it's a first gen 2 door. As for the crossovers under the dash from what you suggest seems like the only possibility. Thanks corkey
