Mounting Off-road lights

picked up 4 offroad lights today. They're monuted on a 1/2" bolt blah blah blah.

I was planning to mount them on the stock luggage racks that came on my X.

Just curious how as to mount them
I had originally planned to drill them but didn't know if the metal(?) would crack.
Are there any alternative methods to drilling? I read the FAQ and just wanted to make sure it would hold up to a drill.

Drilling it will be fine. I had some up there for awhile before I moved them down to my push bumper. Most people run the wires in through one of the doors.

i have 4 up top on mine and have had them there for a year, it will be fine, they have help up great even after being bashed to **** on trails. I ran the wirring through the roof(i drilled).

I'm not going to drill the roof if at all possible, my dad's **** about drilling anything on my car. I'm gonna try and run em in through the doors like Kert said.

Here's the best pict I have from when I had them up there. I used a flat 4 type trailer connector, so it could be easily removed if needed.

i ran mine through the back hatch for a couple months, i ran the wires down the rail and then hooked them into the rear hatch and then into the interior..it worked but drilling was alot better.

Thanks for all the help guys. Drilled em and mounted em in about 45 minutes. Gonna pop that bad boy back on there once I get 'er back.

Here are a couple of links (found in the FAQ section) on the wiring of the lights. I would suggest using two relays, one for ea. pair of lights. Wire size will be determined by how far the wires will run from the battery.

That looks great! I have no experience with this and I have no idea how heavy those lights are. But since the crossbars are kinda flimsy, I can't help but wonder if you shouldn't cut off some of the excess length on the mounting bolts so the roof doesn't get scratched up if bar flexes.

Good thinking, I'll definitely keep an eye on that. Those lights are pretty hefty.

The stock luggage bars are actually rather sturdy, and even during all the jarry and jostling they underwent on some trails last week, the bolts never made contact with the roof.
