I am getting dual exhaust and the place said that they have to take the spare tire out to put the muffler there. My question is is there a way to mount the spare in the back like a jimmy. I go on trails so I don't want it to bounce around and I want to have one in case I get a flat. Anny Ideas??

for a CRL bumper w/ tire carrier on it.

put it on the roof.

could always just throw it in the hatch area inside....make a cover for it and what not

Here is what I did to havemy Spare Tire inside like the 2-Door Blazers that Do NOT have the Tire Rack outside.

IAMTODD, x24, and jssong were able to put custom dual exhaust on their truck and still have their spare tire on the stock location. So it can be done. You might want to check/search that out, get a picture and print it and show it to your shop guy.

where can I find a tire cover to cover up the stock tire cuz it is all rusty and stuff? And one that is the same color as my interrior?

CBoug76: That is exactly what I wanted to do to my 93 x but could you tell me the materials you used to make the tire rack and how you made it. I don't have a welder is there another way to make this without having a welder?? It looks really good though. Do you still install it the same way even though I got a 93??

My carrier came off a TWO DOOR... the Mounting Rack i have is an AFTERMARKET one made for the TWO DOOR Blazers.... It is ( was ) made by West Valley

also the tire cover i bought mine at discount parts but its black, you might be able to find a interior coordinating cover off another vehicle and use it

search ebay.com

PEACE

yea but it looks like CBoug76 made it out of pipe that he painted and it looks like an inexpensive way to go cuz the $375 for the duals broke the bank. If I did go to a junkyard and found a blazer with the tire rack inside how would that cost me to buy off the junkyard?

You may find an outside spare carrier from another vehicle at the dismantler. You may be able to fabricate it and make it work. This would be a low cost option. I no longer know of a source for one made for an Explorer. Another option is to mount it to a Safari Rack like we sell at Explorer Express. We have an adaptor to mount it to the rack. I know members of this site have done this. Maybe they could share some pictures? I think you could a have a more effective "muffler back" dual exhaust system without the spare tire. It would have less bends and allow for larger pipes. A dual system that bends around the spare tire is not very effiecient and the fact that the pipes are so close to the spare tire bothers me.

I was talking about mounting the tire inside my explorer because that looks the easiest and doesn't cost as much. I just need to know what materials were used to make this.

For a junkyard prospect, why not use a Bronco II spare tire carrier? They look to me like they would fit an Explorer's liftgate without much modification. I was thinking of trying this myself-once I finally GET an Explorer!

I just bent a dual exhaust on a 92 xlt today with the spare left in place. It can indeed be done. I bend exhausts all the time and didnt think it would happen easily but it can be done. Go to a better shop or explain to the guy that several people have done it.

My Tire Carrier is made from mostly 2" Black Pipe......

the base plate is abour 3/16" steel plate....
the verticle pipe is about 16" long welded to the base plate, and threaded on the other end. 2" Threaded elbow, then I got about a 4" long pipe(2" diameter) and threaded that into the elbow. On the other end of the 4" pipe, I threaded on a mounting flange. (See Photo)
Then since I knew a Machinist real good, I had him machine up a nice round piece of 1/2" thick aluminum. In this piece of aluminum, I had him sink 3 Wheel studs so I could mount the tire, and drill and tap 4 1/4" holes so I could mount it to the mounting flange.... last I cut a piece of rubber 1/2" thick to fit the round plate, so that the tire would not be metal on metal*and squeak if the the lugs came loose).... I know the Round Aluminum plate may be a little too much for some of you, but you can also go to the junk yard and get a Hub or an Axle from an explorer or anything else with the same bolt pattern (5 on 4.5") and attach it to the mounting flange.... and you'd be all set!!
