I have a tan 03 Mountaineer, 4.0, base, there is nothing special on her at all. I have plans for how I want the outside, but can't decide what to do inside. I am open to any suggestions. Future plans include painting her flat black with sexy red pinstriping, glossy black grill, and then give all cladding and bumpers a good coat of bed liner. I need something to match inside, but I need it to still be a functional people hauler. Keep in mind that this is going to be my daily driver as well as my project for a long while.

Going to murder that b**** out? Get some current pics up. What color is the interior? I would get a touchscreen head unit, upgrade the stock speakers and recover all the seats black with red stitching if you interior is black.

I have a tan interior. I was wondering if there is a way to paint the plastic without it looking like crap. If not I have a junkyard nearby and could get an original black interior. How much would the touchscreen and speakers be, and where is a good place to get them? I am liking the idea for the seats. What could I do in the way of a sub? I will get some pictures up tomorrow.

For the plastics, make sure you clean them off very good, i use rubbing alcohol, some people use acetone, make sure you mask off anything you dont want painted, and get a few cans of (whichever color) GOOD spray paint, not wal-mart, or kmart (etc) brand.

Then you'll probably want to clearcoat it.

As for the radio, if you want to buy one new, double din, a good one is about 600$ they go all the way up to like $4k.
Try Craigslist.com and see what you cant find, usually someone has one REAL cheap just cus they need the money for insurance or something.

Speakers, buy NEW, goto bestbuy, or circuit city, car stereo one, etc, and make sure you get the right size, probably 6x8's.

The nearest best buy is an hour and a half away. LOL. I would love to see a $4k radio. My craigslist is pretty lame, but my brother is down and Jacksonville so I could have him looking for something. I suppose I will look for speakers on the internet.

Yea in my opinion, theyre not that special, i like the look of the -1000$ ones anyways lol

What would I need to mount a radio like that?

A dual-din install kit, and wiring harness, try crutchfield.com they have great deals, plus when you buy a headunit, they send you EVERYTHING you need, along with step by step instructions with pictures; all for free.

Would anyone be able to post some pictures of their murdered out mountaineer? So I have plans for the seats and stereo. What else needs to done here? Also is there any way to black out my tailights but keep the plastic chrome bars?

Is there any way you can take the taillight off, and remove the chrome bars? cus then you could use the Taillight tint spray and then put the chrome bars back on, that would look really good, specially when you murder it out.

But about your sub situation, what kind of music do you listen to? Do you BLAST it, (alot or a little?)

(Just asking, cus ill find you a nice setup for a good price)

My music selection is extremely varied but most of the time it is rock. I like to blast it occasionally.

I don't know how that plastic is attached I will look tomorrow. If it is glued on there could I bake it without ruining the finish?

I just looked up the law in Iowa on tail light tint. It is illegal. I will get a second pair to try this on for some offroad only use.

Dang that sucks, laws like that are too strict i think, there should just be a limit to like how dark or something.

But yeah theyre probably glued on somehow, try it out and tell us what happens, and actually you could still get a can of that taillight stuff, and spray just like a light layer on to give them a darker, smoked out look.

And for the music, I was thinking one of the Infinity Basslink's, my neighbor has one in his 03 Ex, and I think it sounds damn good.

But For just about the same price, you could get 2 12" Dual (brand) subs, in a bandpass box, which is the best box in my opinion, ported, and filled with blue LED's, plus a matching amp for the kit, for just 250$ And then you'd just need the like 35$ wiring kit, probably not even that much.

Ive heard those subs, they sound like you got some serious stuff, when its really a great bargain lol.

If you want something more "stealthy/smaller" let me know.

i will get to the junkyard soon and get a light to test bake.

I like the infinity basslink best. I am for the compact design. How much smaller can we go, and how badly would that effect the sound?

I think that is the way to go. Thank you for all the help. I will make sure to get some pictures up tomorrow.

I will keep looking at the stereos and until I find the right one.

No problem man im on alot feel free to ask any questions about it :D

I think after Easter weekend I will get a tail light. They are wanting 45 bucks though and I don't feel like risking wasting money that could go somewhere better. I will see if I can get one that is slightly damaged for free. Lol.

Also something I hadn't thought of, what would be best in the way of suspension. I don't know if lowering is my thing because I go through backroads for fun now and then. But lifts sound like they are a lot of upkeep. What is there that would leave it at about the same height but have noticeable ride improvement?

I would like to see a few other murdered out mountaineers or even explorers. Some interior shots would be very appreciated.
