Okay, Just got a 2001 X Limited 5.0, don't know much about this because I literally got it from a friend a couple days ago. I know that the engine was replaced with a used mountaineer engine recently. Other than that it seems to be in good shape stock. Well, when placed in park on a hill this x will slowly moves, worse than that the parking brake doesn't help. When parked on a level spot I tried to push it and it seems to lock. Weird...never experienced this problem before...I am planning to do the brakes and parking brakes this week. Any suggestions or advice on this problem would be great..and any tips for the parking brake replacement? Thanks!

Is it 2wd or awd? If its awd is the front driveshaft in?

The AWD parks through the front driveshaft, a failing AWD T-case or a missing front driveshaft would cause it to creep like that.

Just for kicks, you are sure the front driveshaft is in there? Just because it should be doesn't mean it is...

Edit: Damn, Section beat me...

welcome

as for the parking brake... it doesn't auto-adjust like the old drum brakes were supposed to.

and the parking brake really is just a drum-brake setup, on the "hat" of the rear rotors.

sounds like they just need some adjustment.

Thanks for the responses... sorry about the delay in replying back. I believe this explorer is only 2wd so as far as a front driveshaft I don't know I will do some inspecting on this explorer this weekend and get familiar with it. Seems to be a decent running x other than the brake issue.

Are you sure it's 2wd? 2wd mounties are fairly rare- just because it doesn't have any dash switch doesn't mean it's 2wd- AWD's have no indicator of drivetrain on the inside.

I'd look underneath and see if there is a transfer case.

If it slowly moves on a hill, it must be AWD. 2WD not in park would just roll away. Sounds like transfer case or missing driveline. I think the missing driveline is becoming more prevalent as folks try to increase their fuel mileage.
