MSRP How much lower than it can I expect

One of my uncles was a dealer finance manager for a Saturn dealership. He used to laugh at this- because the "no haggle" price that was on there that everyone got was higher than what they would have negotiated to. Everyone paid a higher price by thinking that they were getting a nice, low, no haggle price. Oops! :D

And if you don't negotiate retail, you should. I bought a camera at Best Buy last night while carrying an Amazon printout. Lots of stores will negotiate... ;)

What was strange was my wife's Saturn Vue MSRP was about $1,500 lower than a simular equipped Chev or GMC small SUV model? Isn't it a Best Buy store policy to match any advertized price. I doubt if you go in and start haggling for a lower price on a TV set the kid working there would most likely have a good laugh. To me Car shopping is worse than going to the denist for root canal.

I also got $1,000.00 rebate and 750.00 from the Ford mailing. I just walked in and showed him the printout from Ford.com build your own section and he said $100.00 over invoice. I came back a week later and purchased my limited.

Get X-Plan if you can, but there is only about 7% markup in Fords, so if your dealer needs to come off sticker on a $40K unit, a couple of grand discount is fair to both. As a dealer, there's no need to discount very much because of demand. Dealers around here won't do anything on them because customers understand they are worth the sticker price.

Eh, that's bunk. There are starting to be a good number of explorers on the lots around here. I've been to a couple dealers around the DC area to look at varying options and color combos, and the dealers all seemed eager to try to sell me one. I'd think you should be able to get around $500 over invoice before rebates.

I have x-plan (so that is a bit unique) and just ordered a 2012 for $100 over invoice, before $1250 in rebates (Ford $500 and $750 coupon). Even without x-plan, if I were to buy a car off the lot, I wouldn't pay much beyond $500 over invoice.

Like I said use X-Plan like I did, or else the dealer won't give up much, because they don't get reimbursed by Ford like they do w/ X-Plan.
Gosh, you should start a buying service for all us dummies out here!

The Saturns were normally lower vs. the GM/GMC counterpart, at least around here...

I didn't get a price match on the camera, I showed him the printout and offered $15 below that on a $130 camera and walked out with it. They will negotiate with you. I've negotiated almost everything I've purchsed from them, including 2 TV's. :D

I love car shopping, but I'm on Z=plan now but I still like to go through the process. I find it somewhat entertaiing, but I have a sales background, so I enjoyed being on the other side of the table for a change. :)

I'm just saying I think you can still do well w/o x-plan. I didn't have to find out because I have x-plan, but others here have reported paying a lot less than MSRP, in fact, close to invoice, without x-plan. You say the dealers aren't willing to negotiate because these things are in such high demand, and I think that's not true -- I think they are willing to negotiate. Of course, if you find a dealer who's not and he's got the Ex you want, then you either pay or walk away. But, I would be remiss if I didn't encourage the person to try to negotiate for $500 over invoice. Walk in with a truecar report, know the numbers, and tell the dealer what you think is fair price. $500 over invoice leaves the dealer with a decent profit, I believe.
