*MSUPERTEK*I JUST REBUILT TRANNY NOW LEAKS BAD

Ok i just rebuild the tranny on the exploder and i put it all back together and i cranked it over and let it go through the gears then all the sudden BAM its leaking from where it looks to be the front pump seal/bellhousing bolts....... now i know the bellhousing bolts have O-Rings on the bolts but u think they could still be leaking?... i replaced the bushing in the bell housing and it has a new seal.... the old bushing was shot or do u think i could be the converter not sealing correctly?

CONVERTER HUB AND SEAL............

when you installed the tranny, did you make sure the converter was all the way in the pump gear (all the way back) and then when you bolted it to the flywheel (bellhousing bolts already tight) it should pull the converter forward about 1/4" or more....

Did the converter get replaced?

Was it leaking here before?

it had a slight leak before.... Front pump seal...... but the converter bushing in the bell housing was shot and i replaced the bushing but did not replace the converter... i put thenew bushing over the converter and it had some play in it... but was not sure if that was normal..... umm guess not lol but i am pulling it back out today and putting in a new converter cause i belive that the shaft on the converter is worn down enought to cause it to leak.......

actually what happens (as it was explained to me) is the hub on the converter is bent, and causes excessive runout (like an unalanced wheel).

The tolerance between the converter hub and that brass bushings is within ten thousands of an inch, which is like 10x's what most auto trannys use. So it is VERY important to have the converter tested before installing.......

VERY common problem with the A4LD, often mistook for the leaking seal or bellhousing bolts/o rings.

Also you can use some silicoln on those O rings...

yea i looked in the kit and i had 8 metal/rubber covered washers that were supposed to go on under those bolts along with the o-rings and i know i tore 1 o-ring so.....i will replace the torn one put the washers on it along with silicon.... put it back in and then hang the exhaust and the cross member and see if it leaks if it does then i will put in a new converter......and if not i will drive it :)

ok so i pulled it out yet agian to put those washers on and it still didnt fix the problem..... tomarrow i am gonna pull it back out (4th time) and replace the converter...... seems to be the on ly thing left....... so wish me luck cause if it doesnt work then i just waisted alot of money.......

HAVE The new converter tested!!!!!!!!!

have the brand new converter tested?
because the old one is still in the truck

YES!

Dont trust the runout just because it is new.

If they build converters then they will have the runout testing machine.

You could visibly see the hub on my old converter wobble, like a bent wheel, and it was just out of spec, the bushing lasted 1 yea before the leak developed....

If you replaced the bushing in the bellhousing that could be your problem. The bushings are align honed in place and so removing a factory bushing and replacing it without making sure its centered could cause problems- the recommendations I have are to purchase a remanufactured bell housing with the align honed bushing in place. You may need to check the pump/bushing alignment.

Good Luck- Im in the process of doing the same thing- still need to get a few bolts out to remove the tranny though- time time time need more time.

just talked to a local tranny shop and i was informed that i can blow out the front pump seal if its not resessed back far enough.. he said the seal is resesed in the bellhousing and can leak if not seated properly... and he also said he never had any bushings aligned honed after he installed them....... so i am gonna go from there.......

oki figured out what it was the bushing that i replace in the bell housing spun forward and cut the lip on the sea or in essance made a passage to where the excess oil couldnt not drain down through the little drain hole.... and just came poring out.... so now the question is can i still use this bushing? or do i need a new one? still looks good.... and also do i really need the new converter? the old one is working fine and the shaft isnt bent.......

ok i am now on the virge of selling this truck because i cant get it to stop LEAKING........so i am going to try one more thing... a new bushing in the bellhousing along with a another front pump seal.... when i pulled it out it look like the bushing slid forward and was "sealing" with the seal and causeing all the excess fluid to come poring and not go back down then drain hole..... then new converter didnt help at all... so i wasted money on that..... also when i start it up and i give it some gas is seems like its in gear? my old one did this too... what could that be...... and if i cant fix this thing i am gonna sell it...... so please help me out i really dont wanna sell it......

with all the time put in it.. opne thing...take it to the shop and let them finish it. sometimes when u looked at something too long, u misses the littles thing. so, take it to the shop man. u spend so much tmie on it already, dont turn around and sell it. a vette cannot even get close to 360 or gilmer. just take it to the shop, man.

Vette + 4wd = Monster Garage ;)

Sorry I feel your discomfort in the situation.

no vette plus supercharger plus nitrous= 200+ MPH'S/ Low ET'S :) and alot of tickets

OK I FIXED THE LEAK WOOOO HOOOO but i am still taking it by a tranny shop that i know of so they can double check everything for me, and readjust the bands..... will let u guys know how it goes

How?

Reset the bushing?

when i took it out last time i noticed that the bushing moved forward but i tapped it back in not thinking anything about it....... so just incase i went to the store and bought 2 new bushings today..... when i pulled it back out the bushing moved so i pulled it out and then installed one and it goofed it up so i pulled it back out (bushing) and installed a new one with locktite on the out side of it.... installed the seal.... and sealed it with silicon... and then put in the converter.... installed it and no leaks found..... FOR NOW... but i am still taking it to a shop and have it looked over... it shifts slow into reverse and when i come to a stop light it wants to bog down the motor as if its not downshifting or something.... might have a band to tight or loose so i will let yall know tomarrow....
