MT tires on snow...

just a simple question, how do mud tires fair on snow? I magin AT tires would do better, but Im looking at getting some MT instead, mostly due to the season right now. In the winter, I plan on doing alot of driving up the pass for snowboarding and what not.

My M/T's on my old 78 ford did excellent. That was off the road in snow, the A/T might be better on the road with snow but im not sure. I never had a set.

also...can/is there chains for 31" tires, specificly MT ones? i know my friend who use to have a nice B2 with 32"s said he wasnt even sure if he coudl get them for his. so, just curious.

all this past winter, I drove up every weekend to the ski hills with my ProComp muds, and they performed excellent. I just got some BFG muds, so I'll have to see how they do in the snow compared to ProComp.

i have 31 muds on mine and i took it up to the pass this year and it seemed to do fine. ur prolly gonna want to bring chains if theres much snow anyway so it doesnt really matter

depends what kind of snow... ice: all tires suck. powder: an a/t would provide better floatation, semi-pack: m/t would dig down to solid ground

If you haven't bought any yet, I'd suggest the Pro Comp M/T over the BFG M/T. The Pro Comp is siped but the BFG is not, so it should be slightly better in snow.

thanks for more feedback. yeah still havent bought, dont plan on buying any time soon either, pocket doesnt go that deep...specially with prom being this weekend...lol. all i can afford right now is a safarie rack and wheels.

I've had 2 different types of M/Ts out in the snow and I've been pleased with both. People here have whined that you have less traction with M/Ts but I haven't had an issue. I've been able to make it through snow 2+ ft deep with my 35" pro comp M/Ts and a rear locker. Many times we've had 2-3" of snow on the roads and I've never had traction issues, don't drive like an idiot in the snow and you'll be fine.

I've run BFG M/Ts, General Grabber M/Ts and now TRXUS M/Ts in the snow. the TRXUS are definatly the best of the tree with the Grabber next and then the BFG. It takes a little adjusting to your driving habits, but I now prefer M/Ts over A/Ts in every condition, from dry hot pavment to snow and ice covered.

On my wifes FS Bronco, I used to run BFG A/T's & they did pretty decent on snow & ice................I thought

Last October, I put a set of TRXUS M/T's on it & WOW!..........What a great tire for these conditions. I have nothing bad to say about them but I'm sure they'll wear quicker than the TRXUS though. I'll be putting A/T's on it for the summer so I can make these tires last as long as I can.
