Muffler Data Chart

Very interesting chart.

One question: what Flowmaster muffler did they use?

It seems that a lot of Flowmaster mufflers were somehow omitted.

That was my thought exactly. Immediately during reading that chart I was kind of pissed at the fact that they threw in a generic "Flowmaster" test, instead of specifiying which of the 10 different models Flowmaster makes. It's almost as if they didn't really test one... I'm very close to getting the "70" series dual in dual out setup, with quietness being a key factor. Just would like to know how it compares to the other brands.

im going with a flowmaster and 3" on the 03 on friday i dont think im going to do a tip but going to dump it by the spare tire i like the clean look just want to hear it not see it

I've had mine dumped before - right before the rear axel. The bad things will be; it'll be a little overbearing at times and you'll have a dirty rear end in no time.
The exhaust gases make a mess with things blowing out near them. You'll find this out once you get under to work on it. The worst will be when you try and get it inspected. ;(

Very interesting chart but so far I'm happy with my Flowmaster 17268 for my Jetta and planning to replace my stock muffler for my Explorer. I know you can usually find a used one on ebay or craiglist but I prefer new with a warranty so I got one from Flowmaster directly here Flowmaster

Is it at all possible to run dual exhaust in a 2003 ford explorer eddie bauer 4.6L? Including two cats and mufflers? I Have had my explorer for a little over a year and i have been slowly adding things to help boost performance and HP. I have already purchased a set of headers and 1 high flow cat and 1 flowmaster 40, is it at all possible to install 2 cat and 2 mufflers? Im not sure if there is enough room under there, or if it would even be worth it. I was also given a set of underdrive pulleys form a friend of mine and they were origionally for a F-150. The packaging says that it will work for 4.6 thru 5.4 Liter. Will they work for my Explorer?

Your setup will work fine. You will need to get another cat though because you have two;) Check out the 3rd gen Modified forum for more info about those that have changed out their exhaust. The one that comes to mind that is similar to what you want would be JarvisB. Here's a link to his thread- http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=272948

As for the UDP's, as long as you have the correct water pump depth, then I think you will be fine as well. Here is a link to help you out- http://www.steeda.com/products/_popups/pulley_identify.php

Jakee- Thanks for the info and it will answer a lot of questions!!! I personally am happy with my 70 series FM because it gives me the sound I was looking for:D

I assume the vehicle tested had cats on it. i noticed max decibles was reached with no muffler. I have gutted cats and a flowmaster muffler. I also have a custom air intake setup. I wonder how much power i have with my setup.

Mustang gt?

Has anyone put mustang gt muffler on their ex? :)

I just put on a dual in-dual out (2.5") full boar muffler and it sounds amazing. Just another option out there, and, the cost is very nice (plus, it's in 409SS).
