for all those who have simply welded in new mufflers on your 4.0 6's what brand and model have you used?

I need a dual outlet muffler, but want it to remain as close to stock sounding as possible. A little extra growl is fine, but nothing major.

Does anyone by chance have sound files of explorers with exhaust systems? whether it be full exhaust or a simpler muffler change?

damn,

i just did a serach on mufflers and im now more confused then ever. For a bit it sounded like a Flowmaster 50 series would be the ticket, but then someone would chime in and say its still pretty noisy.

Basically what i want is the quietest aftermarket muffler. My stang is loud, and I LOVE IT, but i dont want my winter ride to be makin noise

I'm happy with my Flowmaster 70 series. You can hear it but it isnt annoying. I got the heat shield on it also soI dont know what it would sound like without it.

Bill, thanks for the response

this whole idea has got me nervous as hell. I'm so used to the V8 mustang world where its hard to make a bad sounding exhaust note regardless of what setup you go with.

I'm having nightmares of firing my SportTrac up after doing the exhaust and having it sound like crap. The only reason I want to put a new muffler in is so that I can experiment with a side exhaust setup.

im a little overwhelmed right now :(

i would think a 3 chamber flow wouldn't sound too loud, as long as you don't go and hollow out the cat converter.
