I have a '98 EB that I bought used. It has a multi disc cd changer in the center console tht I have no use for, but I can't see how it is attached. There are no visible screws on the exterior of the changer. Can anyone tell me how to get it out without damaging the console? If you can tell me how to get it out, you can have it.

its not that hard to remove the changer. first thing you want to do is is open the console lid, prop it back. then remove the change holder, it should just pull up and out of hte way. second, remove the tissue holder. again this just snaps in place. after doing this you will see the wire harness that runs through the console and plugs into the changer. it helps to have a small flat head screwdriver to hold the clips up while you pull the harness free. next thing you need to do is un screw the black plastic linder from inside the console. the changer is secured to the liner. there are, if i remember correctly, 2 screws back by the lid hinge and 2 screws in the space where you removed the coin holder. there may also be some on the sides, memory is blurred. after you have removed changer and linder as an assembly there are set screws on each side holding the changer to the liner.

hope this helped, oh.. and btw.. if you dont need your changer i would deffinetly like to have it. shipping would be to 26554. lol

went out and took a few quick pictures. here is the screws underneath the coin holder:

the screws by the lid hinge:

and the wire harness visible when you remove the tissue holder/cup holder assembly:

once you remove the 4 screws and wiring you can pull the liner out of the console and there are 3 set screws holding the changer to the liner. hope this helps!

That looks simple enough. Maybe I'll give it a try tomorrow if the weather breaks. If I get it out in one piece, it's yours. Thanks much

Four0Sport,
Thanks for the pics as well, been having intermittent skips on my changer, may have to replace it as well. Never really looked to see how to take it out but your pics couldnt make it any easier. Much Appreciated.

if you go to get a used changer make sure you take your old one with you and match up the part numbers, different years had different styles. plug in size is the same, but wire location within the plug are different. i found that out after driving halfway back from a junk yard with no sound! had to go back and match up part numbers.

oh.. and grnmachine, you need to make a registry for your truck on this site so i can see how awesome it looks, cause from your signature it sounds pretty radical!

Well, you were right, it was a piece of cake, after I got your instructions. Only thing is, my brother-in-law tells me there is a "cartridge" of some sort that's supposed to hold the cd's, that slides into the changer. It's missing. Like I said, I bought this rig used. If anybody wants it, send me your shipping info. (c.o.d. of course) Thanks again
Tom

If you're having skipping issues grnmachine, pull it out and check the orientation button on there. (You'll have to remove the plastic holder to see it, it's obvious) Sometimes they flip to horizontal, and you need to move it back to vertical, just a screwdriver to do it.

Mine was skipping once in a while, and that fixed mine.

Thanks Four0Sport, will definitely check the p/n's if I go that route.

Joe Dirt, thanks for the info--will check that out too!

Much Appreciated!

Did you ever get it figured out?

Joe, late response here, CD changer has been working flawlessly since... Not going to take it apart until it dies...

Thanks again all for the info I am sure I will need it in the not too distant future.
