Does anyone know how to remove the stock CD changer from the console. I just got a 98 Sport a few weeks ago, and haven't had the time to buy a Chiltons yet. The dealer finally got me my cartridge for the changer yesterday, and the thing jammed up the first time I tried to use it. It worked on disks 1 to 4 and then jammed up. I was able to get the cartridge out with some help from a previous post. But the part that the disk plays in is jammed, and won't return to it's home position. I guessing something got down inside there, since it didn't have a cartridge in it when I bought it.

There are 4 screws. Two in the front under the coin holder and two in the back. Take those out and then remove the cupholders by pulling up till they pop out. Now disconnect the connector to the CD Changer and pull it out. I'm 90% sure I covered everything but I'm doing it from memory which tends to be wrong sometimes.

You don't even have to remove the cup holder/kleenex dispenser face. Remove the coin holder and kleenex holder and undo the two hex screws up there like Coug said. Then remove the two back screws. Start pulling up on the tray/changer assembly until you can reach your hand down and unplug the harness from the changer. I find even though this is a pain in the @ss, sometimes it's even harder to snap the center console trim back on. The whole thing should take about 10 minutes max.

Good luck!

I once had a problem with my Magazine for the 6CD Changer Cartridge. I think it always does not need repairs.

If your Magazine is jammed, and you get the 'NO CD' Message on your radio face, sometimes it is not 'jammed'. The CD itself is not engaged to play anymore after a disc change. So it is sitting in the compartment disengaged, so the radio reads no cd. Sometimes, each little CD section in the magazine gets a little squished with normal wear and it cannot properly slide back in.

If this is your problem, use a straight screwdriver. Apply LIGHT pressure to either the left or right side of the cartridge while pressing eject. Try each side a few times. After a few tries of the left or right, the disc should come back into position into the cartridge and it should eject.

Remove CDs and inspect the cartridge. Look for squished CD sections. Free them a little GENTLY with the same screwdriver being careful not to damage them. Make sure the sections aren't squished.

Some particular CDs may give you problems. If it happens when changing a particular CD, rip the CD and burn it and try the replacement.
