Hey,

My name's Lisa and I'm new to this forum. My husband's in Iraq and I'm stuck dealing with the 2005 Ford Explorer issues on my own.

Here's the deal: When I'm idling low (breaking, coming to a stop, coasting down a hill) the engine will stop showing me the battery and the oil pressure is a problem. I take out the key and restart the vehicle just fine.

I took it to the dealer and they replaced the alternator, but the vehicle did the same thing again. Obviously, they didn't diagnose the problem correctly. Do I have any case for getting my money back? Anyone know what the problem was? I took the car to the dealer vs. another shop because they should be the experts.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I drive my two small children in the car and I'd hate for the engine to cut out while on the freeway.

Thanks so much,
Lisa Sloane

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread to the stock 2002-2005 section. It might be related to the idle air control or the mass air flow. These parts might need to be cleaned. Do you have a check engine light? Did the dealer scan the computer to see if there are any codes?

That wouldnt have been the problem, you should go back to the dealer, if you payed money and raise some hell until you get refunded.

I would do as brooklyn said, check the MAF, and intake, maybe even a fuel filter change.

The dealer should have fixed it. . they should be responsible for the repair and to resolve the issue, at their cost, id find out what they had to say and report back. They should have an idea if codes are being posted and/or the tools to find out what's it doing. Dealer should try cleaning the MAF at the minimum.
Is it still in Warranty?

Actually sounds like a vacuum leak maybe.
Also the Throttle Body, which has a TPS sensor and associated throttle motor. I thought all '04 (v6,v8) are Fly by Wire thus no idle air controller but these TB seem to cause idle issues when not working right.

By chance are you using cruise?
