Hi everyone it has been awhile since I've posted on this site because I've had to get rid of my 93 Explorer well basically because it literally died on me. Best car I ever owned but she was pretty rusty and had over 300,000 miles on it.
Since than I've been looking for another one but instead I found a 1994 Mazda Navajo LX that was only $500.00 and it needed a starter. Once I put one in the car it ran like a dream even with 227,00 miles on it!
Now to get to my question: Are the Shift motors interchangable between the Explorers and the Navajo's?. I went ahead and read through the 4x4 troubleshooting guide(excellent write-up if I may say) and I think that is what is wrong with my Navajo. When you push the button you can hear the clicking but it wll not engage. The car sat for a good year without being driven so I actually am tempted to "smack" the motor with a hammer(not too hard though) to see if it will engage. What do you guys think? Also did I get a good deal on my Navajo and can I expect really high miles on this vehicle too? Thanks alot guys-sorry for the long post.

Tap the shift motor silonoid lightly with a screwdriver handle or somthing. The rubber bushing was shot on mine, replaced it and it worked. Then got my truck stuck and shift motor didnt want to work, I thought I shorted it out or killed it in the water, but I gave it a few tappy tappy's and it kicked in and started working. Whats that old saying if you cant fix it get a bigger hammer. GOOD LUCK.

Hey everyone I'm going to try to rebuild my shift motor and I was wondering if I can still drive my truck with the motor and the weights off the transfer case. Thanks for any advise you can give me.

As long as you don't plan on shifting the transfer case you can drive on it without hurting anything.

ok thanks alot for the info.
