My 92 xlt wont start!!! Help!

So... Don't know why I didn't do this first.. but I pulled the wire plugs from the coil and some of them had white corrosion on them and on the inside of some of the coil block holes. Now obviously that does not seem good but it ran fine untill the alternator went out. Would that cause the coil to blow out?

*EDIT*
If the alternator went out, it's probably either the brushes or the rectifier, either way it would just stop putting out power. I don't think that would hurt anything, you just wouldn't get very far.

An easier way to check the coil is with a multimeter. Pop the plugs off the coil pack in pairs and use this diagram as a guide:

yes, pull out a spark plug and reattach it to a wire and put the electrode (where the spark is arks the gap) on any form of ground, like the head, etc and let someone crank it and you should see spark go across the gap. if there is no spark then a coil is bad or ignition problem, there is a tool for this that attaches to the plug wire but this method is free. dont try this too long because you can potentially damage the coil if it is working but its worth a shot

or do what natenkiki2004 posted, a little less harmful and safer haha nice diagram
