My chirping bird under my hood is getting louder, please help!

I love my 94 explorer and wild life but here lately I have heard a little bird chirping under my hood and it is getting louder.
Does anyone know what I can do to "set it free"?
Also I have been getting a ping in my engine and a mechanic said that my convertor was getting choked up and time to replace it.
I use my 94 as my job and have 177,000 with no problems til just now.
Thanks for this forum. Its nice to have a group to learn from that has the right answers.

All I know that a mechanic said it would later sound like a yapping small dog then break, made mention that it was a sensor-something under the engine and said $300 will "set it free"..I just thought maybe to do some research..I would ask. Do you know if I can tow my 94 behind a RV?

Hi!! I am in Hutchinson! Home of the 1st under ground USA Salt Museum and the Cosmosphere. Not to mention the State Fair. Where is Humbolt? I would not mind visiting places I have never been.
