My dad's 2 before Explorer's

Just outta curiosity...how much did it cost for the "all new sheet metal"?

I am not sure since my dad bought it, but I think it was around $3,800.00. That did not include the box.
that is the cab, doors, fenders, radiator support. That means we have to change out the dash, interior, heater core, and then take any wires off that are hooked to the firewall, and tire wells.
It will be something new for us. We haven't done one like this before.

what kind of spare tire mount do you have on the back of the "purple monster", who did you go to, to make the bumper and mount, and what was the cost, thank you?

It is a P.W.S. custom tire rack. My dad and I made it and sorry, but I'm not up to building another one at this time. I can answer questions for you if you e-mail me.
The hinge is made from a wheel spindle so it has bearings on top and bottom. I don't think that part will ever wear out. We won't hit highway speeds with it when we open it.

Not sure what the cost was all together. It is made out of 11/2 tubing instead of square tubing like most people use. Why, just to be different and it kind of matches the front bumper that way and the nerf bars.
I also wanted to use the stock bumper. The tire rack does not set on the bumper, but go thru and connects to the frame underneath.

So far it is working well. I still need to add the water jug to it.

COLOR

Do you know the color of that gray/purplish explorer that your dad has? mine is the same color and i need touch up for it and everywhere i go(even the dealership) ive gotten mismatched colors.
Thanks!
Keep it real!

i must say, this is all very impressive. Personally i would NEVER have the patience for any of it :)

keep up the good work,
Jeff aka Lamah

Here is an update on my dad's power stroke pick-up. The Ford dealer is 3 weeks late getting the cab to us, but they finally delivered it 7/30/01. This is what the truck looks like as of 5/31/01. We hope to see some good improvements on it by the end of the weekend. Just trying to find a spray booth now.

I'm not sure but I think it was around $3800.00 which we figured was better then trying to piece all the parts and this way we know everything will fit right.

Since all my pictures won't show up anymore I'll post new pictures of the before and after.
Dad has been busy so he hasn't had time to work on his two Explorer's but now they are both done except for a few little things.
We took the black one up to Estes this weekend and it worked real nice. It is loaded with EVERYTHING!!!!

This is what it looked like in Moab last year. Can't tell, but it had a black hood and fender.

how much did it cost? how many hours of labor?

I am not sure since my dad bought them and did a lot of the work himself.
I just help him in the evenings and weekends at the shop.
