You said you checked the motor mounts so I would check the tranny mount and then the U-Joints. I'm leaning towards the U-joints since its a 92 and probably has a good bit of miles on it. You could also have the tires balanced. Keep us informed.

My truck does this too, but only under heavy acceleration. How would I go about checking the tranny mounts?

The easiest way I know how to check the tranny mount would be to look at the rubber mount that mounts to the crossmember, to see if its torn or cracked.

I thought they all did that , arent vibrations a factory option?

Yeah I thought the same thing about the vibrations. Mine also came with the extra crappy tranny option.

I had viberations too which was my rear driveshft bolts at the tranny where they bolt to the ujoint.

guess i didn't have that option..i'm at 170K and i don't have any vibration thank god..i've replaced the shocks and springs and i also lowered it maybe that helped

MY EXPLORER HAD THE SHAKES TOO ALF,BUT NO MORE!!! MY PROBLEM WAS THAT MY FRONT BRAKE DISCS WHERE CROOKED AND I ALSO CHANGED THE DRIVESHAFT U JOINT ON MY 94 EXPLORER AND HAD MY TRUCK ALIGNED AND HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AND BALANCED,TRY THIS BEFORE YOU TRY SOMETHING MORE EXPENSIVE ON YOUR SUV,OR BEFORE SOMEONE TRIES TO MAKE YOU GET SOME NEW TIRES!!!,MY TRUCK HAD THE SHAKES BAD WHEN I USED TO HIT LIKE 55MPH AND IF I WENT HIGHER DAMN MY TRUCK FELT LIKE A BLENDER!!,NOW I CAN EASILY HIT 75 OR 80 MPH WITHOUGHT ANY SHAKES!!!!

My Explorer vibrates also when accelerating. I
think it might be the tranny. Thats just a guess.
How could I check the universals? My Explorer
only has 51,000 on it. How often should a
tranny be serviced? What should in the tranny
for fluid?
Thanks
Bill M

Bill, I recommend a trans fluid change about every 25,000 to 30,000 miles. If you don't mind spending some extra money, I'd go synthetic. Mobil 1, Redline, Amsoil, and Royal Purple make excellent synthetic trans fluids and motor oils. I'm running Royal Purple synthetic oil and I plan to start using synthetic trans fluid when I hit 25,000 miles.

I just replaced both U-joints on my daughters Explorer. The syptoms were exactly as you describe, vibration during acceleration & a strange grinding noise at low speeds.

Actually the rear joint was shot, the front one O.K. but I replaced both. Just make sure that you mark the relative position of the driveshaft with the mounting flanges, transfer case, and rear axle with a marker. That way when you reassemble everything, it is in the right orientation.

The parts store I went to offered two "grades" of u-joints. The "better" ones were $12. the cheaper ones were only $7. If you like working underneath a car all the time, buy the $7 ones. Otherwise, buy the better quality joints. Peace of mind is worth the extra $10.

I apreciate all the advice that i recived for you but i need to know where are placed the u joits

ok alf the u joints are located on the driveshaft of your car i see your from mexico ok this helps more, the u joints would be called "las crusetas" in spanish they are located in the driveshaft."la barra la que corre del diferencial asia en medio del motor"y alli estara tu problem!!

Thanks Kane for this information i have problem whit the the terms in english when i translate to spanish. I thought that the u joints are like rubber joits. I will replaced las crucetas and the problem will be solved.
