I want to take a 91-94 4x4 and cut the back off behind the back seat and at the bottom rear window. Then take a pre 93 ranger cab cut the back off then weld it on to the ex. Then use a ranger tailgate or modify the rear hatch into a tail gate.

What do you guys think? A few years down the road before i can do this. But it should be pretty cool. I could also make it into a avalanch style rear, much more difficult though.

Sounds cool, but it's been done here already. I can't remember who. But I think it might have already been done a couple of times.

i forget who it was, but

this guys was selling it awhile back.. though it's an explorer hatch (well, the lower half anyway) and all

That thing is crapy!

I ment done nicly. solid wall behind rear seats and useable bed in rear. Just like a new sport trac. Then lifted and good paint job. Very clean looking!:D I will drive by and people will say did you see that? I didn't know ford made sport trac back then?

I know what you meant by solid wall behind the seats and a bed.. But you could probably just get a sheet of metal or something and weld it in place and put glass in there for the window.. Probably easier to do than cutting a ranger cab.. Just my 2 cents

Those pics there are of a convertible X, what you're wanting to do is (as your title says) 1st gen X into a Sport Trac.. I just thought that's what Matt was talking about

I know I know

But you could probably just get a sheet of metal or something and weld it in place and put glass in there for the window

Thats why I was thinking of the Avalanch idea That would be kinda cool. But thanks for the info and ideas dejello

my truck is convertable..... cutting up a car is a lot more involed than you would think.... trust me!

Remember that when you cut the roof off anything you need to put in a really good rollcage to stabilize the body and add protection.

Its funny you should mention that I am in the planning stages for the same project I have talked with a few cheroke owners who have done this it is not the easiest mod. They have all told me that they would never do another one. But the addition of the a cage is a must. becuase you will be weekening the body. I am still doing more research on this but it mite just be a project for next summer if I decide to do it.

If you do this, you might want to use an XLT, since if you use a Sport you'll have less truck bed to work with. It's a neat idea.
