I believe you are missing the metal clip that holds the hydaulic lift tube to the ball mount.

You can pick up a replacement at any auto parts store.

They have retainer clips that hold the hydraulic shocks onto the pivot ball deals. At least that's how the rear hatch is. Check the other side and see how it's secured on.

If you need to purchase new ones, they have them in the JC Whitney Explorer Forum Store. Click the [Explorer Store] buttom up top.

I purchased a set ( F67Z 16C826-AA and F67Z 16C826-AB ) from Ford Parts Network ( http://www.fordpartsnetwork.com/ ) for #21.00 each. I prefer Ford parts.

If I remember correctly, there are nor clips. Check with Monmix, he is the expert.

Hey Aldive who makes them for Ford, and why so picky when it comes to hood supports? you got me curious is all.....

I have no idea who makes them for Ford.

I have had excellent luck with Ford parts for all my life and have been burned by after marker ones ( infrequently ).

Has anybody made hood supports for the 1st gen explorers?

I am pretty sure the same ones at pep boys are the same ones you get from ford, at least they were with my rear hatch supports, just FYI

Liftmaster or some crap like that, I too prefer OEM parts when I can get them.

They are about the same price as you paid in the store, I could never figure out why these lifts are so expensive!

Most likely the same offshore company that makes ford shocks for 99 cents each.
You want good american made struts that will last a lifetime? Buy AVMS, that way they will last more than 30 days :D

the ones on my BII lasted like 230K miles before the rear hatch started to sag a bit....

There is a universal kit to add auto hood lifts to basically any vehicle, I saw it on trucks!

But I am guessing you could get ones from a junk yard and make them work fairly easily. I had planned to do this, but now I am headed towards a fiberglass hood so the auto supports are out....

Your 88 BII was american made, of american steel, construction and parts, by american labor, think about it :D

I think about that every time I grab a metric wrench for the drivetrain and also every time the OD marks another mile, so far just over 280K

My blood runs blue.
the Cologne family of engines comes from Merkur, not Ford in America...

(Well now I have all standard stuff in there, but it wasnt always)

Not sure where the BII was assembled in 1988, but for some reason I doubt it was Detroit.

Metric!! what a blessing!! no 15/64ths!!

OH sorry, yes I love Metric, far superior, damn stubborn Americans.
I work all day long in metric, everything I design is oversea's typically.

However I no longer have to carry two sets of tools on the trail, since I went 5.0L.
Oh well except the lovely 4R70W is all metric stuff but I am hoping I will not have to touch that baby for a long long time.

I guess I'm getting a little off thread, but yes love the metric. On my project I buy metric nuts and bolts by the pound at the local Tractor supply store. Much cheaper.

Give me socket sizes 10 thru 14 and I could probably take 90% of the B11 apart ha ha

This was on another post last month but just had to to it. This is my 97 with my solution to the faulty strut design. 50 cents at local junk yard. Will outlast any strut out there unless you have an identity problem with people watching you manualy lifting up rod this works great.

But on the other side of the nickel, this is what I got on the B11. Self rising struts that came off an Acurra Integra. No need to go outside at all to open hood. Just pull from inside and hood goes up like its on viagra. HA HA Those struts are off the back hatch back and are as strong as the day it rolled of the line.

Rookie, once you have a bumper that sticks out about 18" and the trucks sitting on 35's, you have to step to the side of the fender after you unlatch the hood, otherwise you cant get the rod in the hood hole, or maybe I am just too short?

Need a sheet of paper to stand on. Good point though.

See now you know why I put the Gas-o-matics on the hood of the B11.........35's, flared fenders Hmmm

the truth it was plain ass dumb luck that it worked in the frist place.

thats half my trucks build right there!

Maybe I'll leave it to ya in my will. My son is a moderator on a Honda site and my daughter says it will embarrass her taking her to school. At least my girl friend likes it.
