To fit around the gas tank maybe? I do not believe my rear sway bar looks like yours but mine is stock. Pretty sure both sides of mine appear to be the same.

Pretty sure that is how they are supposed to look.

That is odd. I would call up whoever you bought it from and make sure you got the right thing. Ask for a picture of an identical model. My EE swaybars were symmetrical.

ok everyone-1st and 2nd gen guys go outside and measure the distance from the lower end of your sway bar endlink--to the ground. Measure each side and report back.

You have to look closely, but if your truck is sitting level the driver side link will be closer to the ground.

I'm not sure about this using an aftermarket bar but maybe Techieman33 will report something interesting.

Using this knowledge the bend might be to make up for the driver side having more weight, as an aid to leveling the truck.

It is hard to see in that picture, but the passenger side has that same bend in it. In stock trim, the swaybar appears to mount approximately 3/4 to 1 inche lower on the driver side.

I don't feel like searching for wherever my kids have put my tape measure, but it is pretty easy to see the difference.

Good god that swaybar is thick compared to the stock one.... I had never even thought to pay attention to the size of the stocker.

is this for an explorer?i believe its molded after a second gen sway, they mount different and that bend is the passenger side exhaust comes down and out on a first gen, with it mounted different than a first gen it would hit.you can just use a second gen rear sway bar in your first gen and get the same results,2nd gen is way thicker than a first gen.or it just might be the wrong bar all together.here is a 2nd gen swaybar in a first gen pic

Off topic a ,little, but why are people upgrading a rear sway bar? I plan on removing mine...for good for offroad use. Not being ****y, just curious.

Do you only offroad?how long does it take to remove two bolts?most people are upgrading for street trucks,me i have 9" of lift and going into a turn or on ramp gets a little scary without a sway bar.i can def tell a diff with or without mine and I've rolled once on street and don't like feeling like im going to again!!

My ex is only on the roads to get to the trails, but at the same time, once my brakes are situated I believe it to dependable to drive to California and back. I ask because on 3 of my old cherokees I didn't have rear sway bars and they weren't bad, however I removed a front once before and you had to drive that SOB lol. Can't say I ever rolled on the street, but have been on my side and lid a few times off road, i could understand with 9" of lift the fear off going over on the highway.

I guess a thicker ( more ridgid) sway bar is going to help on cornering with less body roll when taking turns and curves?
