My Ranger has a flashing overdrive light.

Ihave 1996 ford ranger and i have tochange seal.after i took trans back on i have problem with it.when you put it in drive it stals,after driving for about ten miles the O/D light will start to bkink and willstart to hard shift betven first and second gear.it will reset it self over night.

when the O/D light comes on it mean that the trainy is in lock mode, if you stop the vehicle and shot off for 5 sec and restart it will be ok...don't drive vehicle with O/D light on since the transmission is not working in all the gears... need to test to see what king of code is on it... on my 96 aerostart was the tork converter that was not loking in 4 gear... and cause the O/D light to come on

It is bean for a wille like that.But engine light never came up.I notice that in winter time will less do that.Yes when i shot off it restart but it will hard shift 1-2 gear for few miles and will ran very smoth.I read that adjusting band my help.What you pepl think.

I recently had my OD start flashing on mine. I left work, went to a little 4wheeling spot, put it in 4LO and began messing around and climbing a few hills for maybe 15 minutes.

I got back out to the road and started driving, maybe around 30-40mph......but I still had it in 4LO. I came up to a stop sign and put it in park and it made a weird BRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrr sound, and the light started flashing.

At this time, I put it back in Auto 4wd. I drove about 50yds to a parking lot and looked at everything with the engine running and the O/D still flashing.

It drove fine. I turned it off for about 2 minutes, cranked it back up and the light was gone and everything worked fine.

What was that all about????? It has around 85k miles on it.
