So, while im on the verge of tracking down a ford engineer to punch them square in the face, Ive been toying with an idea. Ditching the 4.0 sohc thats in my sport, and swapping in a built 2.3l. My reasoning for this is to drop some weight off the front end and have a much more simplistic motor that has much more room around it to work. Ive spent the most part of my adult life building and tuning high hp 4 and 6cyl boosted engines, so power wont be an issue. My question is will the 2.3 bolt to my tranny? and what needs to be changed in the harness for that swap?

The 2.3L would bolt up since the 5R44E found in the ranger 4 cylinder share a common bolt pattern. The only issues I see is the wiring harness and computer.

It would be nice if the engine harness would conect to the main harness and if the ranger ecu plugged into the explorer main harness. if things were only that easy...

Anyone know what would need to be changed to make the 2.3 engine harness work with the explorers main harness?
