Well, after MANY weeks of me going,"well..how im I gonna do this?" and after 2 weeks of Kampy and his friend ACTUALLY doing it, ITS DONE!!! hehe Here are a few pics of it, and technical questions can be asked, i think i may know the answers..but if not, im sure kampy can!! So the things that i still need to do is get tires, and lengthen my driveshaft. those will hopefully be done by the end of this week. I plan on 36x12.50 Super Swampers. So with out further ado...here are the pics!

Yah know, I'm glad to hear that ya got it done...But that is the stupidest looking set up....33in boggers, and 29in goodyear vectors? That is like the worst set up! I bet it wouldnt even be a good mud dragger...I will only consider it cool once you get new tires....
Take care dude
RFR2212;)

P.S. --No one take offence to this

Riff...could you please give me all the info you have on the swap? I am going to try to get it done before Moab. What are you doing about the rear? Just have it drilled for the Larger bolt patern?

So, what is the story on this thing? Is it done yet? It's been like 6 months! No tires yet? You know attica is only two weeks away.........gettin' in on the hair of your chinny chin chin!!!

It does look very original with those 29's up front......too bad it's not 1970 anymore.

THANK GOD YOU FINALLY GOT THAT THING FINISHED!!!

sheesh.........

well...i don't have any "info" persay on the entire swap hix....but ill give you the specs and all that...(note: when i say "kampy" i am refering to him, or him and his friend, because his friend had a MONSTER part in the jobs too, so i don't want to take away any credit!)

the axle was out of a 1979 Ford bronco dana 44 reverse rotation with disc brakes cut to 59". The rotors were turned (badly), ball joints, bearings, brake calipers, breaks, one stub shaft, and one spindle were replaced. i used the stock bronco radius arms, since they are a smidge longer than the superlift ones. i got lucky with the axle that i got, because they came with droped radius arm mounts anyway. i ordered the steering system from http://www.performanceunlimited.com and kampy cut and sleeved the track bar. i used my superlift springs, and the stock buckets. kampy made up a set of conversion/spacer blocks for the spring perch on the axle. the extended brake lines work fine for the bronco calipers. for the rear kampy made a 2" block.

there was a lot of other stuff....have anything specific?

ya pete..the more i look at it the goofier it gets...so those meats are gettin ordered soon!

matt....i just shaved it all off tonight...so im gettin by on the skin of my chinny chin chin!! hehe when is yers gettin started?! lol

Where did the radius arm crossmember come from?

Did your new steering linkage hook right up to the dropped pitman arm?

Where did the Track bar mount come from?

Is the 59" the length of an EB axle?

Where did the radius arm crossmember come from? The crossmember is a home made one. We used the drop radius arm brackets from the bronco that i got, and took a piece of square steel and welded it between the two. the pic is up top there....

Did your new steering linkage hook right up to the dropped pitman arm? With the hardware provided by the company, it bolted into the pitman. i believe that there was a little drilling involved in the knuckles, but i don't think there was on the pitman.

Where did the Track bar mount come from? The track bar mount was off of the bronco also, but what looked like a combo shock mount and track bar mount. so to mount it to the frame, the guys cut part of it, and bent it back to make it straight, then welded in some pieces to hold the it steady. then they braced it. I don't know if that makes sense, but i have some pics of that too, i think.

Is the 59" the length of an EB axle? um..i really don't know what the length of an EB axle is....Dale Tiessen would know that one...

hehe...the bronco came from the bronco stork matt.....

but actually..i got the axle from a dude in indiana that had TONS of truck parts...i mean TONS!! it was cool...even had a few rockwell 2.5 ton and 5 ton axles!

i got the trail setup. i think it wass like 370 to kampys house, and that was with the tierod over knuckel setup.

Riffman,

Very nice swap... I've been planning on doing one myself, and up until now I have been figuring on doing a leaf sprung front because of ease of installation. However, you have done a really great job that I think I'll be able to emulate! Very cool!

Mat

Mudd,

I Just noticed you're in Missouri City. Where do you go mudding? Wanna hook up sometime?

I'd love to hook up. As far as a spot, I can't seem to find anything anywhere near here. If you know of one, let me know.

What kind of coils did you use (lift and for what vehicle)? Also are those radius arm brackets from a stock 78-79 bronc? Your swap looks to be well executed. I would also like a full report on that steering set-up. I'm in the early stages of the swap, parts colleceting, going thru axle and ect. I'm using a 76 EB 44. Thanks

the coils are the 5.5" coils from superlifts kit for the explorer, and the radius arm brackets are actually from a skyjacker lift kit for the bronco. But im not for sure on that. I just know that they aren't stock ones. the steering info can be found at htttp://www.performanceunlimited.com They have a full description on all of that fun stuff.....

mat...thanx for the complements!! Well just have to wait a few more days to see how she does offroad!
