The gauge in the cluster uses a seperate sensor.

ya know, after working with a replacement PCM that gave me a VERY high stall on my TQ.. its gotten me wondering if my trucks stall isn't too high with my XDT2 pcm..

the pcm I used was an SLL3 out of a 96 5.0.. obviously the difference of the gt-40 and the eGR and whatnot was different.. but.. this was't an issue.. the only problems experiened with this pcm was the fact taht the stall was up around 2200.. that is the truck would not even try to move until 2200.. and I've noticed recently thta the truck tends to do similar with my stock pcm, dragging in the low rpms as if its the gerbil under the hood is running.. but the chain hooked to the wheel turning the driveshaft has slack in it or something..
is the stall of the TQ on our vehicles variable? I dont know how the stall of a TC is determined.. but would this be a feasible reserch area?

stall is the one thing in the transmission that is not controllable, it's based on your converter.

No one at ford has been able to explain why the EEC I sent you didn't work. When I come across one with your code, we can give it another try.

odd.. the truck wouldn't even start moving until 2200 rpm.. I dont understand how if the pcm and the tc are not related, how it could show al these signs. heh, I mean it even fooled my dad that it was the stall..

maybe there IS a problem in my tranny.. and my xdt2 has somehow adapted to it?

I guess I can try the SLL3 w/o the chip and try again.. but I'm 90% sure its going to do the same thing.. my dad thinks the XDT2 chip may have been bad but.. I refuse to beleive either chip is malfunctioning.

I'm putting this on the back burner again soon, college semester just started and as usual.. money goes down the drain when school starts again.

I'm bringing this year and a half old thread to the top again since my V8 seems to have this same problem now. Have either of you, V8X or DarkFox, found solutions? Has anyone else involved in this thread found a solution?

I'm trying to troubleshoot my truck in this thread here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108712 and would love input.

Thanks, Aaron

Darkfox found a solution- he sold it and bought a Chevy. :smoke:

Jacka$$.... that's poor. I will NOT be selling my Ford, got to much in it and love the truck. I know I can get it running right. What about V8-X, he still around?

As far as i know he isnt. You might try emailing him. I tried to help web-diagnose Darkfox's truck for a long time to no avail. My final conclusion was either it was haunted or the floormat was bunched up under the accel. pedal.

Still around, just don't do much posting anymore since I don't have much time or money due to the X's problems and my baby being born in Jan. So the X has become my second priority, but would still like to get it fixed.

I still have my X and it still has it's problem.

I've been replacing items as needed, which are suspect. Still no resolution though. The X has been to 8 shops for diagnosis, as well as a couple mechanic friends have taken a look. Most independent shops have pointed at the FPR, while Ford hasn't found any problems (or so they say). They basically say it's getting old and to buy new. Trans shops have concluded this isn't the problem area. The X isn't tripping the CEL, so many shops won't even look at it.

The only time the CEL was tripped, was when this problem initially started back in July 2002. Scanned and determined to be a bad #4 plug. Since then the CEL has not come back on and the X has had this Power Loss/Acceleration issue.

I've replaced the following parts so far: FPR (twice), 8 plugs & wires (plugs twice), PCV, IAC, T-Stat, EGR, Fuel Filter, all 4 O2's, Belt, both Front Hub Bearing Assemblies, Front & Rear Disc Brakes and the Hub Dust Seals (twice).

I have a K&N Air Filter, which has been cleaned a couple times. MAF/MAS is been cleaned twice (once by myself & once by Ford). System has been scanned and no stored codes. Tires rotated & balanced, alignment checked and ok.

I have a DPFE and ECT that I am looking at replacing. Also, one of the pullies or the tensioner is starting to squeal, so there goes a little more $$$ towards the X.

Damn Darkfox, guy goes and buys a Chevy. At least I'm looking at buying another Ford, maybe just not another X. Darkfox and I spoke about our problems on this as well as another message board for almost a year. Neither us of could find the problem, nor could any mechanic we knew or took it to.

Love my X, it's just starting to wear on me. Had a trip in the mountains the other day (living in CO) and damn did it suck. This thing used to fly up the mountains, now I'm almost flooring it to get up with 1st Gen Explorers and 1st Gen Pathfinders passing me up.

What ever it is, I do know it plays with the Tach. My RPM's are never high enough for the amount of throttle I'm giving the X, and at times the RPM's will slowly drop while I'm trying to accelerate. Sometimes it acts worse than others, but when it's acting bad, man is it bad.

Any questions let me know and I'll give any feed back on my experience. But I'm sorry to say I do not have a resolution to the problem. Wish I at least knew what it was, even if it was a load of $$$. Then I could look at either fixing it or selling it. Right now I like the truck and want to keep it, just tired of this nagging issue.
