Ok first up I'm not an Explorer owner (my wife is), but I am a huge fan of the american V8 in all it's incarnations. I googled for help and found you guys. My wife owns a 98 XLT with a 5.0L V8 powerplant, but recently has had a problem which I hope you can help with. In the picture you can see some hosing that enters into the bulkhead. It's this hosing that has ruptured at the joint and sprayed coolant everywhere. What we need to know is the name of this part and how much it will cost to replace. I hope you can all help.

That module just in front of where the two hoses pass thru the firewall is called the heater water control valve. It is very possible that this is the source of the leak. They are a common source of coolant leaks in the engine compartment. It is not an expensive part; less than $20 US when I replaced it a few years ago. It should be available from a Ford dealer or in the US, at an aftermarket parts store.

If it is just one of the hoses leaking, you should be able to replace that short section between the firewall and the heater water control valve.

Hi world
Your local dealer may have trouble finding the part to order correctly as in the uk we only had the 4.0 SOHC engine sold.
You will probably be better off looking on rockauto.com.
Some of our UK boys have ordered from them and found their service good. I haven't used them myself YET!
If you want genuine ford part you could check the price on tascaparts.com which is a dealership in america. they took a few days to process my order but even with shipping and duty etc it was cheaper than uk dealer prices.
