Narrowed the new truck decision down...

There are a few other trucks I've looked at, but they are either private owner or some no name dealership....in my loan contract to be financed it has to be a franchised dealership, one that is liscensed by ford, chevy, etc to sell new and used vehicles, kinda cuts my options way down. I really don't have a choice though, I've tried some other financing options and with some of the misfortunes I've had in my life my credit score is dragging me down from other finance companies. Once I can get my credit back together I will have more options, but until then I might as well drive something a little nicer then my '93. Btw as I had said before I would not even think about this particular vehicle if it hadn't been so clean, even the engine compartment looks spotless. Here is a link from the dealership.....tell me what you think!! Gotta admit they take some pretty decent pictures

i could sell you a 96 v8 2wd for alot less than that, but that is a little high for an 01, i could see 10500 with a warrantey, but that truck is 4 years old and i wouldn't pay much over 10 for it unless it was really clean, i say this becaues i just bought my 04 ranger fully loaded for 18k and that is brand new, so you could probibly get an 04 for around that maybe.

An Explorer is worth alot more than a Ranger. You won't get a year old Explorer for 18k.

That is a really nice looking truck. Its really your call, and not what we say. We haven't seen the truck in person, and thats what really counts when buying a car. The miles are average to the year, so they really aren't high(I just have abnormally low). So if you see it worth it to get an exeptionally nice vehicle(meaning paying slightly more than its worth, which I do) I say GO FOR IT! Good Luck!

Yah you gotta love the ads they do, I really appreciate all your honest opinions in this forum, everyone has really helped me out alot here. Its just easier to talk with guys who know all about this stuff then trying to talk to my gf about it...lol....thanks again!!

THATS MY TRUCK !!!! I'm talking identical to what I have, except I have the OHV engine and no michelin tires. Nice choice indeed ;) My running boards are starting to bubble rust tho already :(

I didn't realize the running boards were metal...hmm...they look almost plastic or plastic coated...where were yours rusting at....

Right around when the plastic "steps" are, aroud the edge of that.

Well I got it on Wed., very nice truck, much improvement over my old EB. I already discovered it did come towing equipped, as I found the wiring harness tucked up under the bumper, and in the rear cover inside I found the mounting plate for the harness. I will say much more power then my old ohv, the sohc is amazing, it moves along nicely in my opion, I really doubt I'll have a problem towing what I tow. Just a few quick questions though if someone can give me a tip, looking for a good hidden hitch and where to buy, and also looking at buying a bug deflector for the hood, and suggestions on company that has the best looks would also be helpful...thanks

It's not the power that makes people question it's towing ability, it's the weak tranny that never should have made it's way into it. Get a big tr anny cooler, and a temp gauge is highly recomended.

lund makes good bug deflectors. search on ebay or look for the site. not sure what it is

etrailer.com will sell the hitch cheaper than anyone. They are linked directly off of the hidden hitch website. I bought mine from them the other month and had the hitch on in 20 minutes. 4 bolts, all easy to mount in existing holes. The hardest part for me was getting my 16 inch 255/70/16 tire to fit behind the hitch.
I also have the 4.0 SOHC. I like it, but I am wishing I got the 5.0 with the 4r70 trans instead of the 5r55e in these rigs. Still, the 4r70 is not the strongest trans either. Keep the fluid changed regularly and we should be alright.

Get the bug deflector from Bugflector. Mines nice and molded to the hood. It will look great on the black. Congrats on the new truck!

Yeah!! congrats....always great to find yourself behind the wheel of a new explorer....or newer as the case may be.....when I bought my new 5.0 EX. (which I absolutly love!!) I made the stealership add in a bug deflector as part of the deal along with new tires, and Moon Roof....they initially balked, but when I said okay deal's off! ( i had the check in hand) and put on my coat...the speed at which the salesman changed course would of had the skipper of the titannic salivating.....they said whoaaaaa, were not going to let you walk on us for a couple of items.....LOL....which is why I let them know I had the check already.....the only dissapointment so far is that they gave me those crappy rt/s goodyears at the ford shop, and I would rather have AT/S (any brand) I got stuck on a seasonal road, but the snow was up to the bottom of my door, and I guess the frame became part of the problem....I know I would have made it with AT's....no prob.....I lost some momentum is all.....got unstuck in about 10-15 mins with the shovel in the back....and continued on......all in a day on the back roads of wintery NY
