Need an alternate amp

I know I am reaching kinda far back but I am writing an article on JL amps so I was reading through this post and just so you know ANY high end amp with increased voltage better perform better. If it don't than get your money back......so JL triple bull crap is just another way of saying....I do what I SHOULD be doing.... oh and JL says on their site it will put out 1000W from 12 - 14.5 V so according to them yer wrong there too by .5 volts ;)

Ok I'm guilty of not reading every post on this topic but have you looked at Elemental Design? My 10 O's slam! If you want power for a W6 or W7 look into the JBL 1200.1 Under $300 or the rockford Type RF series. I have this amp and with over 18mm of Xmax that amp is giving my 10's a run for there money!!!
Here is a pic of a ed 12 A series

You are VERY...VERY guilty

I guess you don't get the point that it will not drop output when the voltage GOES DOWN. That is the reason for it being designed that way. Also it's 11-14.5 volts. Here is a cut and paste from their web site:

Rated Power:
1000 W RMS @ 1.5 ohm-4 ohm
(11V-14.5V)

The fact that it gives 1000 watts from 1.5 to 4 ohms is not something other amps can boast. A RF BD1000 only puts out something like half it's power at 4 ohms. The JL is a lot more flexible than most amps. You can run a lot of different sub setups and still get the full 1000 watts. The JL also maintains output when the voltage drops during hard hitting bass. I have the amp and I've experienced first hand what it's capable of. I also had a BD1500 and it definately lost output with hard hitting bass after a few hits.

yes, the jl will hold its 1,000 watts

my mtx will start at 1200 at 12 volts and just go up as you give it more... so long as your subs can take it why not let it be variable? if you've set it up correctly its not like the voltage is gonna fluctuate that much anyway

I can give you one example where the JL will provide better power. The 12W7 is a single voice coil 3 ohm speaker. With a RF 1000 it will only see about 750 watts. With the JL amp it will see 1000 watts. If it were a 4 ohm load the JL would have the advantage as well. That's what I mean by more flexible. You do not have to create a 2(or 1) ohm load to get rated power from the amp. This is especially important if you already have subs and you can't create a 2 ohm load without buying new subs.

Yes I am very guilty on page two u guys already spoke about ed and just so u guys know the eD subs are gear more for SQ but they get very load and have been putting out some nice spl #'s My two 10's will have u in pain in about 1 minute not from the volume but the low freq pressure.

Look at these rf amps

Dead Link Removed

Look at the 1051S

1051Wrms@4ohms...........

The Type RF XC7 will be 1000WRMS @4ohms when ever it will be released. I have been waiting for the 03 models to come out for a while now. You can still find the 02 models like the X6 and X7 around. I tell ya my X6 has my subs at their limit and it is set lower then it's could be.

eh SVC...not a big fan....lol

Your voltage on a proper install should not drop at all. It should not be a concern. If everything is put in right than you should have no problems with that. And the whole output of that amp at different ohms is my whole problem with it. It costs so much but an amp is for power....its not servering enough power as far as i am concerned for that price...that was my original arguement and I am sticken to it....not enough power for the price...the whole voltage ordeal is argueable if your install causes electrical problems....but then if your install causes electrical problems...your skills are aregueable also.....hehe

Oh and if you are trying to run one sub and want that much juice just buy the right amp....and the right sub....

I am done with this forum. You guys think you know everything already and cannot accept any opinions other than your own. You can't dispute the virtues of the JL amps but yet still refuse to admit they are exceptionally designed. Also, I did buy the right amp for the right sub. JL recommends the 1000/1 as the optimum power level for the 12W7. If I had bought just about any other 1000 watt amp, I would only be getting maybe 750 watts. I will find a forum where people can discuss car audio without prejudice.

What are you talkin about....prejudice makes a discussion...one person prefers one thing over the other...dude don't leave cause of a conversation we are having...its all part of a forum.....come on now man...be right about this....and if u feel something i said was demeening im sorry...i was just foolin around....accept when it came to the actual topic of the discussion

the fact that the amp has 1,000 watts at 3 ohms is excellent and it really is a great virtue of the jl amps. i didn't dispute that, thats why i have been comparing it to a higher powered mtx amp.

i hope you don't feel i was attacking you, i just wish jl would cut their prices

Sorry guys. I was in a bad mood this morning and I guess I took some of it out here! I'm not much of a morning person and sometimes the dumbest crap sets me off.

I am anxious to see the new RF amps. Hopefully they will actually be better than the hype.

JL sucks i will never own anything from them!!!!

November fools!!!!! Just wanted to get a piece of the argument....lol Glad u guys cleared things up with each other. i hate seeing bs on boards. this board seems to be good so far.

The new RF amps are going to be off the hizzle fo shizzle my nizzle

ummmm right im sorry but that was just pointless.....

No it wasnt I just want to say that I like the way u guys cleared things up and something small didn't turn into bs.

Ok so the first part was pointless i just wanted to add a blt of humar.

The first par was what i was talking about lol....yer crazy

Your not the first to tell me that!
One of the added features I like about the JL 1000 is you dont need a remote wire. I almost went with that amp because it has a remote gain control but the Type RF X6 only cost me $400.

the remote gain controll is cool i wish they all came with something like that...instead they come with a "bass" knob...id rather have gain controll

why would u want to throw you amp around like that...you have sub settings on yer headunit....i have a gain control and i don't use it at all...my gain is set to half for everyday use and to a little over 3/4 for everyday use...if yer worried about sluggin them cats at a stop light...just turn your bass up....far as i have seen my street levels have killed anyone at stop lights :) lol

My main reason for finding an amp with a gain/bass control was because i was keeping the stock head unit and it was the only way I was able to adjust the bass with out buying an eq.
