need cool new seats...

Nice seats! Got any pics of them in your truck?

If you cant get the rear ones you can always try and either have them upholstered in black leather or find some black leather seats from an Ex at a salvage yard/ebay

Yeah..... just got these yesterday...

nice! so have you been able to successfully bolt in and wire up 4th gen seats in your 3 gen?

i didn't think i would like the racing stripes but honestly i think i like it. are the 4th gen leather seats more comfortable then the 3rd gen seats? i wasn't too sure if i would like black seats with my gray interior but that looks sick

Its hard to tell from the pics but it looks like you could easily make a plate that will bolt to the seat and then bolt that to the floor. Im sure any fab shop could make you them for cheap if you dont have the skills/tools to do it.

The 2nd row seats look very similar to the 2003-2005 Aviator's. I brought some Aviator seats on ebay and I'm trying to mod them into a second generation Explorer. The problem you describing is the fact that the second row of seats rear latch hinge sets into a deep well in the floor in order to accept the seats latch assembly. I have thought about craving and modding the floor board to make room for the rear bracket to set flat and also room for the latch to recess into the floor well. I'm still busy with the front seats modding them permanently and I haven't gotten any further. Those second row seats look great and I think they are worth your effort to make them fit within reason. I love the look of your seats and the comfort level is superior to the earlier generation seats. Good luck with the finished product.

I'm done!!

here are some phone pics of the seats

Sorry.. the pics don't do too much justice to the actual look...

So here is what I did:

I removed all the carpet and located to see if there were holes where to screw the seats to without any more drilling (yes... I already had done some drilling on the floor)... thankfully, the truck has a bunch of unused holes that are patched with some metallic tape and some black gum-like guck.

The 1st row bolted almost directly to the floor... there was one of the screws on each seat that did not match a hole.... so I just left it like that.

Out of all the cables in the wiring harness of the seat, I located the 2 thickest one the black went to a ground and the other color to the + of the battery with a fuse in between.

The 2nd row seats came with a "floor bracket/plate"... the 3rd gens (at least on mine, the 2nd row screws directly to the floor)... anyway... the bench is 40/60 split, so I made sure that both sections had at least 4 points where to screw then to the floor....

For the hinge that goes into the floor where the rear of the seats clamp to to allow access to the 3rd row... there some dips/deeps/recesses that were under the carpet, but since they did not match the hinges of the new seats, I hammered in the floor where they were supposed to go (not pretty, but effective - specially since no one will lift the carpet to see what's there - unless I decide to sell, etc.).

The belt buckles of the 2nd row, I wen t to my dad's I used power grinder to make the original ones as thin as the ones for the new seats... the buckles for the 2nd row for the 4th gen x are not as wide as on the 3rd gen... the front buckles were not a problem.

The 3rd row, I just remove the utility bins that were in the back (just unbolt a few bolts and pull them out)... the new seats fit right in... and actually, was the one that I had to fight the least with to get in ;-)

I'm not planning to install seats belts on the 3rd row just yet... I need a break!

So to summarize and some other pointers:

-4th gen seats will fit 3rd gen (with a little work).

-4th gen seats are a little bit harder than 3rd gen seats (at least mine... may be there are too new and not broken in enough, or mine were too old and soft/worn out)... but they are still very comfortable (I'm fixing to drive from Jackson, MS to Orlando, FL next week... that will be the real test... I'll keep you posted).

- The headrests of 4th gens are larger than 3rd gen's so they block rear visibility a little bit.

- they do look nice and the smell of leather when you get in the truck is nice (I like).

Have fun with your projects.

Yeah those seats look *****n

Rafa did you wash the carpet prior to bolting everything up?

I'm lovin it! Congrats:thumbsup:::thumbsup:

great! I like to know that I will always have alternatives to my current seats when the leather gets trashed after a few years. Plus I don't like the 3 gen front seat backs, they force me to slouch my shoulders forward. So once I finally am fed up with the front seats I would like to put some of theses in.

Like the seats. I like how the black and gray looks together. I was considering it but hopefully mine will sell this week and I can pick up a new(er) one.

hahaha.... I thought about it, but it is not worth it... I vaccumed to the best of my vaccume and that was it... I need to get a new one since the original one does not cover all the floor... there are floor sections that are visible now that were not before.....

so I need ideas about what to do with this....

3rd gen grey cloth seats for sale... any takers?

Thanks for all your comments and support guidance...

Now here is another issue... I have a set of 3rd gen grey cloth seats 1st and 2nd rows... they are in ok shape... need some cleaning... maybe $200 negotiable? we can talk about the s&h... preferred local pickup...

Can you still contact the seller of the seats to see if he has the carpet available and in good condition?
BTW your add most likely will be taken down, unless you pay your $20 to be elite...

let me know what you find on the floor carpet, i took out the center console, now i want to fill that hole. We use our Ex for camping and i wonder how a rubber floor would install and look.

Looks great!

Yup only elite can sell stuff

Do you know the color of the carpet in that truck? was it black as well? could make your interior more themed, like black and gray, I'm betting it'll look cool
