Hey guys I have a 98 2 door blazer that I am replacing the speakers in , there are 6 all together 2 in dash, 1in each door then 2 in the rear, I removed the back 6by9's they are factory by the way, and they said they are rated at 10ohms my new pioneers are rated at 4 ohms, will putting the 4 ohm pioneers in burn anything up even though there is a 6 ohm difference? I am also running an aftermarket pioneer head unit as well if this helps any.

I think this would matter on what your pioneer HU is rated at. Do you know the ratings of the HU?

I found all sorts of things on it, except the ohm rating. It is a 50x4 rating. Are you running any amps off of it?

yes just one sub amp , but the head unit has a set of rcas just for the subwoofer output but the speakers are powered by the head unit

Well it doesn't state what the ohms are. I am sure someone here can tell you more than I know about ohm's law. I have always just tried to match the speakers with the amps. But in this case you have no amp. Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.

I was just curious cause my head unit only has channels for 4 speakers and my truck has 6 in it , plus I was curious as to why the factory speaker had such a high ohm rating compared to my aftermarket speakers

where is the 5th and 6th speaker? how are they hooked up? cause if you put them in parallel tapping off the other channels, then you could have problems, cause parallel would drop the Ohms down to 2, you might be better off wiring them in series @ 8 ohms a piece. Might not be as loud but with 2 of them on one channel it could make up for it a little bit.

the 5th and 6th speaker are in the dash, I dont know how they are all hooked together cause I am just using the stock wires I am not hooking the speakers up to an amp or anything just running them off my head unit. when I wired my head unit it it just had 4 sets of wires for the 6 speakers so they have to be spliced in somewhere

The pioneer HU is 50 watts max at 4 omhs and about 22 watts RMS at 4 ohms, I have never seen a HU rated at anything other then 4 ohms.

The front speakers (dash and door) are wired together and when you add in the new 4 ohm speakers the HU will get either a 2 ohm which it is not stable for or a 8 ohm load and the front sets will not play very loud.

What I'd do is hook up one of the sets of front speakers and not hook up anything to the other and see what happens.

so do you recommend unhooking the front speakers in the dash then to be on the safe side?

Yes that is exactly what I would do.

alright well I will do that tomorrow and see what the difference is , thanks for all the help guys !

Mike
